Janeane Garofalo joining the cast of "24"
TV Guide ^ | Aug 20, 2007 | Michael Ausiello

No, Ashton Kutcher has not commandeered my keyboard, and no, this is not a really early April Fool's Day gag: Funny lady Janeane Garofalo is joining the cast of 24.

Although details of the casting are few and far between at this point, what I can tell you is this: 1) Come fall, she'll be a regular, 2) her character is a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season, and 3) since the comedienne's persona often brings to mind Mary Lynn Rajskub's prickly Chloe, the potential for on-screen fireworks is greater than it has been during any of the show's previous bomb threats.

For that matter, there's a good chance that there will be a few explosions behind the scenes, too, since the Ben Stiller Show alumna is legendarily liberal, and 24's executive producer, Joel Surnow, is notoriously conservative.

Oh Lord! There goes the neighborhood. Wait maybe Jack shoots her!

Maybe Chloe shoots her! That would be some must-see-TV!

She'll blow up, real good!

Wow. Cherry Jones as President and now this goofball Garofalo as a government agent? The more I hear about the upcoming season, the more I am inclined to call it a nice run and rent a few seasons of Oz or something...

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the show every Monday for the past six years with my son, but maybe time’s up.

I agree... Cherry Jones and Janeane Garofalo joining the cast? I think I may be done with 24 if this is true...

I only recently found out where the ‘jumped the shark’ phrase came from. I knew what it meant but not how it came to be.

“Surnow was also the producer on that Daily Show knock-off which died on FNC,”

That show(1/2 Hour News) is still on, unless it was announced that no new shows were being filmed and I missed it?

Agreed. I’m no longer going to have to record 24 while watching Heroes. I’d pretty much given up on the show, this simply adds more reasons not to reconsider.

No, it’s dead:

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/half_hour_news_hour_shelved_65085.asp

In a memo to senior producers this afternoon, FNC’s SVP of programming, Bill Shine announced the network “will not continue the Half Hour News Hour beyond its current 15 episode run.” Shine did leave the door open, however: “we are considering ways to retool the show for future scheduling needs.”

I don’t know what that means for Michelle Malkin’s blog show which was supposed to follow it.

I’ve never seen an episode of 24 and doubt I’ll start next season. I have no personal commitment for or against the show. So speaking as an outsider I see no problem with Janeane in the cast. She is actually a pretty good actress and I’ve enjoyed her work since I became aware of her back on the old Larry Saunders show.

It’s a pity she let her career get sidetracked in wingnut politics but I doubt the 24 producers will be giving her the last ten minutes of each episode to sit behind a desk and lecture the audience. Kefer himself leans towards that side of politics as well and it never seemed to stop the fans from enjoying the show.

As for the woman president, why not? Perhaps the producers read FR and see how many are more interested in “teaching republicans a lesson” then they are in teaching Hillary a lesson.
