Mr. X is forever complaining that I am the chief source of all of his “financial difficulties”, so I’m going to be stepping lightly from now on...otherwise, it may be the one way elevator for me!

Sorry, but after the avalanche of “socialized medicine could have saved this couple” stories from yesterday, I just think it’s absurd. This guy killed a defenseless woman in a truly cruel way. 1st degree murder, and he and his excuses can go to hell.

Not at all sure socialized medicine would have helped this woman. She was already eligible for SSI (being blind and down to 75 pounds, and helpless, unable to work), and through that eligible for Medicare.

Only thing I can figure here is that this couple accessed the SSI "are you eligible" interactive website and discovered that it said she wasn't eligible.

The website thing is a sociopathic martinet unfortunately. The handbooks say she's eligible. Any state Disability Office staffer could have gotten her signed up for SSI if someone had bothered to give them a call.

If someone who's in as bad shape as she was can't get SSI and Medicare, it's unlikely she'd gotten socialized medicine either.

She was simply doomed in the best of all worlds.

That happens sometimes.
