Husband throws wife off balcony

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A husband is accused of pushing his ill wife off the balcony of their apartment building.

Cristie Reimer, 47, was found dead on the sidewalk Tuesday night after a fall from her fourth-floor apartment in the 4900 block of Wornall Road. Her husband, 51-year-old Stanley Reimer, was charged with second-degree murder. On Thursday, he pleaded not guilty in federal court.

Not at all sure socialized medicine would have helped this woman. She was already eligible for SSI (being blind and down to 75 pounds, and helpless, unable to work), and through that eligible for Medicare.

Only thing I can figure here is that this couple accessed the SSI "are you eligible" interactive website and discovered that it said she wasn't eligible.

The website thing is a sociopathic martinet unfortunately. The handbooks say she's eligible. Any state Disability Office staffer could have gotten her signed up for SSI if someone had bothered to give them a call.

If someone who's in as bad shape as she was can't get SSI and Medicare, it's unlikely she'd gotten socialized medicine either.

She was simply doomed in the best of all worlds.

That happens sometimes.
