She's a lucky dog indeed.
The female pit bull brought to the Atlanta Humane Society on Wednesday with a hunting knife lodged in her skull is improving nicely from surgery and may soon be adopted into a new home.
The 28-pound dog required three stitches on her head after the knife was removed, along with a couple on her side, the AHS said. She'll be spayed and kept for observation for a few days, but could be heading home next week, AHS president Carl E. Leveridge said. He has tried without luck to contact the dog's owner, and suspects that the dog will probably be a candidate for adoption.
"I don't think there's going to be any problem finding her a home," said AHS public relations manager P.J. Smith. "She's a great ambassador for her breed."
Fulton County Senior Assistant District Attorney Laura Janssen, who is heading an investigation into the dog's injury, said the dog had been reported injured around Lincoln Street. Interviews with people in that area may eventually explain what happened and whether criminal charges would be appropriate.
For now, the dog seems to be enjoying her temporary digs. Thursday morning, staffers paid the recovering dog a visit. She eagerly sniffed and licked their hands and explored the facility, stopping to accept doggie treats as she investigated her surroundings.
"She's not aggressive at all," Leveridge said. "She has a great temperament."
The 8-inch knife lodged in the dog's skull did not cause much bleeding and apparently has not impaired her vision, he said. "Lucky's a good name for her."
I hate pit bulls but that is one tough son-of-a-female-dog.
From the position of the knife, it looks like the blow came from behind.
I hope they do a follow up, I’m curious as to how it unfolded.
I'm a complicated man. But not quite as complicated as The Humane Society. If somebody doesn't adopt that dog in seven days...they'll kill it.
"That's a cute dog. Can I adopt it?"
If my Jack Russell Terrorist didn’t already think she was a pit bull I’d adopt that dog in a heartbeat. What a combination of tough and sweet!
With the publicity and the good temperament report she should have no problem being adopted,
hopefully to a good home and to the chagrin of whoever keyworded “putitdownnow”.
Looks like a 4.5” folding Buck knife that was very popular with Army Infantry soldiers in the mid- 1970s. Still have mine. It is not an 8” knife.
It only took you 38 minutes to do that photoshop job. that’s fast. And very funny. :)
That is not the position you want a violent, biting dog to be in when you go to stab it, so I am going to assume the thing was acting just like it is in the picture.
The b*stard who did this is just a sick *&^%$# who needs a lot of psychiatric help.
BTW how if your puppy doing>
Doing fine, thanks for asking!
We recently got back from a 4 week cross country road trip.
I was mauled the other day by a pit bull -- well, to be honest, he was six weeks old and he took a nibble on my finger (before he licked my hand, my face and fell asleep on my shoulder.) By the time I was able to extract myself from his evil, puppy clutches, I was covered in a thick rime of puppy slobber. It was horrible, I tell you. ;-)
The little dude had very similar markings to this poor female, and was just an angel. What a charmer.
See the link in post #12 for another savage pit bull attack.
That was lol funny and adorable at the same time!
Thanks for the post...
