In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
levity \LEV-uh-tee\, noun
1. Lightness of manner or speech, especially when inappropriate or excessive; frivolity.
2. Lack of steadiness or constancy; changeableness.
Example sentences:
They sat there in their formal bargeman's rig . . . looking solemn: they were part of a ceremony, and levity, winking, whispering, smiling, had no place in it.
-- Patrick O'Brian, The Hundred Days
I must say that if the doctor was indulging in levity at my expense, it is a levity I find in the worst possible taste.
-- Alfred Alcorn, Murder in the Museum of Man
Etymology:
Levity is from Latin levitas, from levis, "light."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

By the time I retire, you can just call me RICH
LOL......

Ti - you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad.
Happy Birthday MM!!!!!
Thanks for the cake, Dentist. I’m happy to donate it to all the denizens of the WFTD threads. I’m sweet enough as it is (actually too sweet - I’m diabetic)!
The Virginia papers (there are 2) that are part of the Gannet DelmarvaNow line are all weeklies, the Salisbury, MD one is the only daily.
Hey - 41 is not old... I’m NOT a “dirty old man”! I’m not that OLD!!!
How is ya?
So do mine..........
41?
Heck you’re just a puppy.
Thanks, Gabz. I’m taking a 1/2 day off, so I have some time to cruise the WFTD thread (work has been 190 mph for about a month now).
tioga’s tango is getting better - thanks.....
LOL, you are a babe - not old at all!
we need pix to decide if he is a BABE or not! in my house, it is xsteen and xsbrownie who use the word BABE and it is to refer to cute guys, not girls!
Think Cary Grant with a beard. I don’t look anything like that!
Just a touch of levity, I guess ;-P
This is Edith. (not her real name)
This is your birthday cake.
You'll have to choose one or the other, because
You can't have your cake and Edith too!
You take the cake! I’ll stick with Edith “strumming her six string”...
Having been self employed for many, actually most, of my adult years has allowed me to always take off on my b’day :)
Becoming a parent does make changes in those plans, though.............LOL!
Strumming her six string or strumming her G-string?
Spot-on, FRiend! SPOT-ON!!
