In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
levity \LEV-uh-tee\, noun
1. Lightness of manner or speech, especially when inappropriate or excessive; frivolity.
2. Lack of steadiness or constancy; changeableness.
Example sentences:
They sat there in their formal bargeman's rig . . . looking solemn: they were part of a ceremony, and levity, winking, whispering, smiling, had no place in it.
-- Patrick O'Brian, The Hundred Days
I must say that if the doctor was indulging in levity at my expense, it is a levity I find in the worst possible taste.
-- Alfred Alcorn, Murder in the Museum of Man
Etymology:
Levity is from Latin levitas, from levis, "light."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I enjoyed a little levity today when StarCMC posted the Friday Silliness Thread on Thursday.
That’s ok Star, I wanted two Friday’s this week anyway.
That was funny. We’re just starting Friday a little early this week. A for you!
i knew before i even scrolled down it was going to be you, vast!!! LOL!
Heat, lack of rain taking toll on Va. crops
It's so bad in Accomack County that some cornfields might not even be harvested, said county extension agent Jim Belote.
"The extreme temperatures are just devastating," Belote said in a telephone interview. "It's just like cooking the corn."
Accomack County is the state's leading corn producer. Belote estimated that Accomack farmers planted 28,000 acres of corn this year. Harvest could begin as early as the end of August, he said.
"It will be early, and it won't take very long to do it," he said.
I have a friend who is going to lose his entire crop. Nearly 200 acres. I only lost 500 row feet, but I am at least able to put in a second planting, he can't. last week he was hoping for 40%, last night he told me he doesn't even think it's going to be worth the effort to harvest.
farming has always been a hard life, entirely dependent on the weather. sorry to hear it.
God bless him.
41 is old enough so that when a girl like that offers to give you "super sex" you ask her what kind of soup it is, so you can make an educated choice.
Happy Birthday!
Home from work and cooking sausage and (gag!) sauerkraut for hubby-I’m glad there is leftover grilled chicken and salad for me to eat-
Queen Hillary’s attempts at humor
Contribute to her political brevity
No matter how she spins it
It barely passes as levity
She is still identifiable
As one who takes her pleasures
Like her husband X42 did
By enacting draconian measures
How stable can she really be
If talking behind her back
By secret service and staffers
Brought on a paranoid attack
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Heh! PHBLT!! But a GOOD use of the word! LOL!!
Here's an M&M cake for Mr. MortMan...
(But watch out for those sweets ;)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
thanks you guys. XS, I know you are aware of farm life.
Our friend is a good guy. He put in only feed corn this year, not for the biofuel nonsense, but for feed corn. He put in no sweet corn, he was going to buy it from me LOL, and no soybeans.
When we finally got home from karate and errands, coolbreeze was home from work. One of the first things he said was to Jax, "So, I see you've gotten your name in the paper."
I thought he had gotten the Salisbury Daily Times, nope, he had picked up a copy of yesterday's Eastern Shore News (a Virginia paper)........He still hasn't seen the article in the DT.....and they finally got around to publishing the Honor Roll listings for all the local schools........
I forgot we were out of soda and didn't pick any up, so he's gone out to buy some and is also on a hunt to find a hard copy of today's DT.
We’re having the same problems here in TN. We’re in an extreme drought situation and have been for months. No rain in sight either.
A+ for you! We had another 102 day here. The pool was a balmy 93 but I had to add water. Again.
I do believe you folks are in worse shape than we are.
That’s a contest neither one of us wants to win. :-(
You’ve got that right.
And on that note I am off to meet my pillow.
I do believe that Tioga is the subby tomorrow, but I also do believe I will not be around.
We’re planning on heading out of here between 9 and 10am and actually are heading toward XS’s neck of the woods. We bought carpet for the attic office and have to go pick it up. It’s a 4 to 5 hour drive depending on traffic. We’re going to have dinner and spend the night with friends, and then turn around and head home first thing Sat. morning because I have to be at work at 4:30.
I really need to plan things like this better. I had totally forgoten about having to go to work.
Have fun and stay safe!
