Farriers... that’s a special skill. Not sure I’d like that.
I found myself wandering the web and finding like these 4 or 5 day classes even here in Washington, where they teach introductory smithing. Would make a fun vacation week, I think. Take a week off and cruise down to White Salmon (where one of them is) and spend the week learning how to make stuff. Would be fun. A different sort of diversion.

A friend’s son took a blacksmithing class at Olde Sturbridge Village. He enjoyed it immensely, and she was able to find a small anvil for his use at the classes. He got into the whole mettalurgy thing, welding, etc, and now has decided to attend a school in Tulsa to learn pipe fitting, welding, etc, when he graduates from high school.
