The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I guess it was, being up near the Lakes! I’d never heard about it before the song, and like I said, not knowing about the sinking, I thought it was about an old ship. I guess I didn’t pay attention to the part about the cargo. ;o)

Protesters stop military transport, delay work.

The follow up story was heartwarming. The part with the riot cops clearing them away with batons and pepper spray. mmm battered hippies make me warm and fuzzy inside.

OK - here's our report from the Sport at the Port :~)

Latest Olympian Coverage... Look for us in the gallery later, I think the Olympian dude filmed us. At least 12 arrested as protests move to downtown, I-5 entrance

Didn't take us long to find the action... look for the cops... :~)

Cops are lining the street... The port entrance is to the left... We just parked here awhile and watched what was going on.

Lovely members of the other side... Olympia has an eclectic mix of protesters... the black clad militant anarchist types...

And the hippies...

I sortof wonder how these two groups even get along... it makes for an interesting group dynamic. What's our theme song... The Clash or John Lennon?

So what would happen here is that for a long time nothing would happen, and then a convoy of empty trucks came through... these are, in part, the guys we saw at the truck stop having breakfast.

And then for awhile nothing would happen.

Eventually the corner where those protesters (above) are standing cleared out and some left, I guess to go up to block the freeway... and the rest, either by cop or by choice, moved across the street from where they are now to the opposite corner.

So we moved over there... behind the cops :~) Here's me in the truck...

We were joined by some others... The chick in this truck was really gung ho...

So instead of the protesters, we lined the exit to the port... Here's ecurbh helping to put flags up. The guy in the orange is with the Port, and thanked ecurbh and us for coming out in support.

Cop petting Gidget during a down time... :~) I love the boots. :~)

Convoys coming through...

One guy trying to sit in the street.

Cop on right keeping him out of the street by assuming a calm assertive stance. If he moves... the cop on the right just has to say Psssst! ;~)

So there's our day...Then my camera battery died! :~0 Several other supporters and lots of flags showed up... we sat through another convoy, but then had to leave. By then it was in good hands... :~)

Ha!

Nice pictoral! Olympia is such a strange mix of cultures, isn't it?

Where's much popcorn...

Did Barkley stay in his kennel while you were out and about? If so, how did he do?

Yeah - he’s pretty good about being crated. He lays in there even when it’s open.

Evening Hair, Ecurbh. Great pics. Fine job on the counter protest.

Your area does have an ‘interesting’ group of protesters; hope they enjoy their stay at the gray-bar hotel.

The DMV is always an adventure.

Our new one has chairs, the old didn’t, so there is that.

Wow - great report. I’m glad you were there to represent sanity and sanitation, and good old-fashioned American Spirit.

Well, I ended up ripping apart what I did last weekend in favor of a basic ripple afghan like I made for my niece. The downside (or upside, depending on how you look at it...) is that now I could really use a nice contrasting color, so I may have to venture into Jo-Ann or some such place. Dangerous!

I can set ya up with some online ordering places... it’s a great way to fuel the yarn addiction. They bring it right to your door! :P

Miss Cat gave it a cautious sniff.

I cleaned out some clutter....found Miss Cat’s rabies vaccination documentation so now I don’t have to look for the actual tag.

Waddya know....the toothpaste cure for DVD’s works!

Well...except then I’d have to have it delivered to work...and it’d be wayyyy too easy to order exotic stuff... ;-)

Right now I’m just working with plain ol’ boring Red Heart. Good for most stuff, I guess. It wears really well, even if it’s not super soft or anything.
