Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Best you can do is to try to raise 'em right.
I’ve been herding cats all day and haven’t accomplished anything on the story.
Yeah, that’s what second-brother wants to do. Or Marines but they don’t have chaplains and he’s had his heart set on that for a while.
First-brother wants to do electrical engineering apparently. And has decided he wants to do ROTC so as to avoid debt. That’s like... the first mature decision I know of out of him. This is a kid who didn’t get his driver’s license until 18 because he wouldn’t stop making cracks about knocking down old ladies.
I just really, really hope he can pass physicals or whatever. He had a growth hormone deficiency that they treated and he’s plenty tall but I don’t know if that leaves any problems.
Heh, I think my mom really despaired of Paul for a long time. But she’s always had a bit of cognitive difficulty figuring the boys out. Other than the youngest one. And me too. And youngest sister.
Well I guess none of us really turned out like she expected. But... um... she is probably going to be worried sick about Iraq from now on.
I had the same problem, and I turned out ok(well, physically anyway.)
Yeah, he seems fine to us but you never know.
Well, that worked out then!!
I tell ya, we were pretty in the dumps...and it’s why I eventually went back to work in nursing...when we found out Steve’s truck had a blown head gasket. That’s major bucks.
But then Big Mac (Paynoattention’s husband) told us about a guy just outside of town and we took it to him for a second opinion and it ended up just being a water pump and a radiator fan clutch needed replacing.
Cost us 265 bucks. The truck runs like a dream now.
I was so relieved.
Suddenly things become a lot more clear.
Yeah, Bother No. 2 wants to be a Presby minister/chaplain... so that’s 7 years of school *before* the chaplainy stuff. Yeep.
I want to read what you guys are writing...how do I do it? Especially yours Corin...since I’m in it! Sorta.
Hmm. We would all have to find upload locations. Or email them to you :)
So I can’t just go to the website and read it?
Forgive me if that’s a stupid question...I’m stupid.
;-)
Not a stupid question! They let you post an excerpt and some of us have. I have. My profile is at
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/20621
and if you go to the “Novel Excerpt” section it’s there. “Writing Buddies” should have all the Hobbit Hole folks plus a couple others. You should recognize the HH names though.
Excellent!
I’ll do it right now.
You can read the first chapter of mine here:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/19667
That’s all I’m releasing until I’m done and edited. I’m still hoping to publish my 2005 Nano (the year I finished), but this is the one I actually want to see in print.
If nothing else, I may eventually self publish it.
lulu.com is a great resource for that.... I plan to lulu a copy of mine myself.
I’ve read yours...it’s good! I can almost hear the cicadas!
I’ve read jenb’s too...suspenseful!
Reading Rosie's in a sec...
Erm...so far I’ve been writing from the point of view of the more twisted characters. I switched my excerpt today, but I’m thinking of taking it down since it (hopefully) doesn’t really reflect the story. A lot of it is back story that it might help me to imagine, but isn’t really needed from the reader’s standpoint. If there was a reader...
I may put it up on-line on Google Docs when I’m done, though. Maybe.
I’m Kaypasa over there. I’ll let you read my draft (I can .pdf it sometime) as long as you understand that there is no type of draft that is in a rougher form than mine is right now. :) I mean, it’s really rough.
I like it! He reminds me of a CSI character, or “Law and Order” type guy...
