The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Hmm, well I know it was a “Dirty Harry” movie but I’ve only seen the first (didn’t like it) and it wasn’t there so I’m not sure.

GAH! People are driving me nutz. Why can't they just accept that each has a small piece the puzzle and all they need to do is take care of that and get out of the way?

There's the insurance agent: I did get some small concessions from them, but not everything I wanted, still it's better.

There's my brother in law: All I want him to do is help Jr. uninstall the stereo system they bought him for graduation, but who keeps insisting that I don't need to move quickly and that Jr. assuming an automobile loan might not be a bad thing...give me a break we know who would get saddled with that...

There's my mom: Who keeps trying to figure out how SHE can borrow more money to help, but I won't allow a 78 year old woman on retirement and social security to do that. Granted a year ago, my stepfather could have handed her a wad of cash, but he gave up the store and suddenly he's shocked that there's no more cash flow...

And then there's Jr. who: Is trying to grow up, but at the same time is dealing with the fact that some idiot totaled his car. He wants to make the choice of car and I keep telling him that he has no real options and he won't get what he wants. He needs dependable transportation and if we can find cool for that price it's a bonus, but not a requirement. Then there's the fact that he almost lost his job this weekend complaining about schedules, but I think get got him straightened out on that.

Surely it's 5 o'clock somewhere...

I think there’s usually a Geico ad at the end of a rant like that...but under the circumstances, maybe not... ;-)

I’m sorry, Corin. I really hope it all ends well. Sounds like some folks need to just chill out and realize this may take more than a few days to work out.

Heh...someone on Craigslist is offering a pair of free llamas.

I dare ya!

Just kidding...but I do wonder what the horses would think of the critters. Betcha they’d find them incredibly confusing.

Heh... That’s how Bob got into having llamas. When they first became trendy a few years ago, he thought with all the hippy backpackers around here he might come across them on trail and the horses would freak out.

Horses are a bit spooky about them.

My honey would love to have llamas (or alpacas) someday... my biggest issue would be providing them with adequate protection from critters. They’re sitting ducks for coyotes or roving dogs, much moreso than the horses are. According to Bob, they can’t be turned out together, the horses would kill them.

I’d want them in a secure area at night.

Uninstalling the stereo is not as hard as installing it. You guys could manage that and save the stereo. Probably worth doing!

But are they ninja llamas?

Maybe when you guys get your boarding stable set-up out by the forest. ;-)

They don’t *look* like ninja llamas.

Not dark enough.

OK, finished the current creepy stalker dude chapter, which should add another 1500 words to my total tonight. Not bad for a before-work kinda run.

This whole story is moving, though. Originally the bulk of the story was going to take place after the murder, and the murder was almost just a way of putting folks in place for the *real* story. But I’m wondering if that’s gonna work anymore.

Yes, maybe then... and goats, and a duck pond. And goldfish.

Yeah, I know. I’ve just never installed or uninstalled one. And since it was the graduation present from the uncle, I thought I’d prevail on him to do it.

But, I worked things out a little better. I’m taking the lower quote from insurance and we’re “keeping” the car. I’ve found a Honda salvage yard that will pay us AND pick the car up. So, all we have to do is clean it out and take them the title.

At the end of the day it gets us more than we paid for it, although not quite what we’ve invested in it. And I’ve found some comparable alternatives that we’re looking at tonight.

Well, you seldom get out of a used car what you put in it... ;~)

Sounds like you did good.

Are you selling the car off though? Or will you fix it?

I’m selling it to the Honda salvage yard.

I’d be less put out about return on my investment if it had been Jr’s fault or if we were just trying to sell it pre-accident.

I shoulda put Jr. in a neck brace.

Well, good. I really feel bad for Jr though (and you). Like you said, he’s got enough of the trying to grow up stuff going on, having some moron smash his car is just not what he needs.

So, now I’m a bit stuned...

I just called Jr. and told him the plan. He said “I want to thank you for putting so much money into my Honda. I really appreciate it.”

There are two possibilities here:

1) I got the wrong number, or 2) Aliens have landed at Castle Stormhands

Seriesly, he’ll drive me nutz and then all of a sudden I’ll get a glimpse of something like this.

So, there’s that.
