The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

This evening MMC will get a little scolding from FMC about having to go to the upcoming wedding of MMC’s school friend that will be held at the estate. She doesn’t care much for his machinations in attempting to take her on a proper date. She would have been perfectly happy to “go as his friend” if he had only warned her. Plus she’s annoyed that she doesn’t have a thing to wear - she packed for a summer of scrubbing toilets! Men just don’t understand these things. Meanwhile, on the tv in the background, the talking heads are chattering about MI-5 & Special Branch setting a new standard for interagency cooperation in the apprehension of a terrorist and foiling the bomb plot. (granted the terrorist is a decoy and the real attack will happen the next day...)

Yup. Modern air travel is a joke on so many levels.

Property can be replaced, true, but the sentimental value can't. Those blankety blanks.

In other news, I’ve got one more seam to go in assembling the baby afghan. Then I get to tuck the ends and do the border. Then I’m going to write about 2k. I’m a multi-tasking maven.

You’re free to slap me if you want but I really do have a good reason for megawordcount.... I am convinced my story is closer to 70-80k and I want to be finished or darn close by end of November. And this year the writing is just working so I’m not going to spit at it.

I think mine’s gonna be pretty long, too, but I don’t think I’m gonna finish it this month. I also am thinking that a good portion of what I’m writing may need to be dumped. Backstory is more important to me than it is to a reader. They don’t realllly need to know the killer’s entire past life, though it’s handy from my viewpoint if I’m going to write what scenes I *do* leave in with anything approaching realism.

Unh. Cats still haven’t gotten the time change memo.

That was a tragic crash... and must have taken a large part of the club.

Good morning everyone... Errands in town on the agenda today. :~o

See, I finally figured out why my 04 NaNo worked really really well. It’s because 05 and 06 I violated the NaNo spirit and worked on stories I already had a lot invested in - either rewriting, or setting one in the same universe. In 04, I had an interesting idea, plotted it out minimally, and went with it. Same this year. I’m having way more fun, I’m discovering interesting things about my characters... it’s just great.

Mind, by Thursday the Week 2 Blues may set in...

That’s a bummer. If you’d noticed it just a little earlier, I saw a little ‘mail it home’ kiosk thing at SeaTac.

Thanks for the hint though ;~)

So, this mornin' I says to my insurance agent, I says (roughly translated):

I have helped to make you a wealthy man. You need to prove to me why I shouldn't be helping make some other insurance agent a wealthy man...

So, we'll see what happens.

Heh...that sounds like something your character might say. If’n he had to bother with things like insurance agents.

Sort of the opposite with me. Last year I tried the ‘just take a new idea and run with it’ and I hated it and bogged right down. I did a lot better two years ago with an idea I was more interested in and invested in writing. Now, with a 6+ year old idea I have a plethera of things to draw on and a good idea the sort of story I want to tell. Well I guess it remains to be seen if I can finish.

Yah. And frankly I could have taken it back out. The TSA guy gave me a chance to do that, so the decision to have them just keep it was mine. I might have done that but the line was growing and it was running particularly slow and I just didn’t feel like it.

Mainly I’m angry at myself for missing it in my packing pre-check. But at least it wasn’t a magazine full of .45ACP. That might have been more troublesome.

You’ll finish! You’re doing great so far love.

After all, we’re staying home for Turkeyday so we can get lots of writing done then.
