The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh. spent too much money. But they also had ground beef on sale so now my freezer is well-stocked with dead cow.

Guess I should go out and rake some leaves or something...play in theyard while the weather’s nice.

Cool - pre-primed is a real time saver.

A shed’s a darn handy thing to have, we know our basement would be a lot neater if we had either a garage or a shed, but since we don’t...

We may make that a spring/summer project, then again..

Liquor store run not a bad idea. Baileys, even better.

We're gonna lose a lot of our leaves today. Hurricane Noel is moving up the Atlantic coast, though well offshore, and I think we're beginning to feel the effects of the outer bands. It's COLD, too!

Got up early to go sing in the choir at the opening of the Diocesan Women's Conference over in Worcester. Then SirKit picked me up and we did some errands. While we were out and about it started raining. Fortunately, we got back before it started raining too hard. Now it's sandwich and hot soup time, and a fresh pot of coffee. Mmmm. caffeine.

Hmmmmm.....is KCPride Cargill?

The likker store run started as a quest for cheap Australian Shiraz....and I just happened to pass by the Irish cream.

I’ve got black beans soaking for soup later. Gonna have beef broth, beer, sausage, lots of spices, onions, garlic...and whatever vegetables I decide on. Need to run out later for carrots and such, I think.

LSA says she doesn’t think KCPride is Cargill.

I like Gabriel Byrne a LOT! Did you ever see The Usual Suspects? It was a excellent one with Byrne and Kevin Spacey, another of my favorites. Another Byrne move that is just beautiful is Into the West, from 1992, about a couple of kids in Ireland.

If you're looking for out and out hilarious, you gotta see Relative Strangers! It's a 'R' rated movie. Ron Livingston is a psychologist who getting ready to promote his new self-help book, and his brother reveals to him that he was adopted as a baby. This brother has always been jealous of Ron's character, and can't pass up an opportunity to make life difficult for him. They've grown up in the lap of luxury, his parents are very conservative and he's a real bleeding heart liberal. Livingston hires someone to find his real parents and they are Danny DeVito and Kathy Baker as two real hicks. It is just a hoot to watch how 'tolerant' he is as he deals with them.

Somebody else must be thinking barbecue too...there’s hickory smoke in the air.

He eats every meal like it’s his first in a month.

A friend of mine had a dog like that when he was growing up. They'd found him as a puppy, living in a concrete block, starving. From that time on, he always ate until he was about to pop. I guess he was never really sure when he'd get his next meal. Maybe Barkeley is like that, too.

Sometimes you just gotta dump the words out and wait until the rewrite to make ‘em pretty. ;-)

True! Is why I have a few unfinished sentences on my first excerpt LOL! I just kept typing. Probably will do the same.

Just got back inside from spending some quiet time in my side garden reading a book called "Soldier Dead" - am REALLY getting into this stuff...it appeals to the forensic anthropologist in me - about what the military does to recover its dead...a kind of 'untold story' about the efforts our military go through to recover bodies...has been going on since the Civil War at least.

Would love to know whats going on NOW as far as recovering bodies etc in Iraq...and whether or not there are the same efforts going on in countries where we've sent military but have had no visible action. But then, Im probably sticking my nose into unclassified stuff...

We're back from Petsmart...

"I'm a baaaaaaaad beagle. A very bad beagle."

We found a crate that would fit under the desk, so that's cool. He doesn't seem to mind it... Thinks we bought him a new dog bed. "This is pretty comfy!"

"OK... but what's with the latched door thing?"

In other news, I think I’m becoming addicted to semi-colons; somebody stop me!

I’m sure there’s a good prison song about that somewhere.

Eh...I’m addicted to those, too. Commas, too. Sometimes I seem to have real trouble ending sentences. It’s easier to keep propping them up with more and more punctuation.
