The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

How do you work around computers?

First thing I did when we got home after Japan was turn on the computing array. It’s just not home without low-level hums.

Climate change, man. Snow in November and drought the rest of the year. It’ll happen.

I dunno...computers are different, somehow. Maybe because they rarely have that electronics smell that things like older stereos and electric typewriters and such have.

Remember when I got my first crockpot? I was on the list then. The first time I used it, I spent all morning practically having anxiety attacks, imagining my house burning down. I had to run home at lunch to check on it so I wouldn’t go crazy. Heh...

Er...”on the list” meaning “in the Hobbit Hole”. What comes of switching from reading mailing list stuff to reading FR without brain reacclimatization.

*Sigh*

Does apple cider make a good mixer for bourbon?

Mulled Apple Cider

1 gallon or 4 and a half liters of apple cider
1 and a half to 3 cups of bourbon
1 and a half teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 and a half teaspoons allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker and stir well. Cover and cook on preferred setting, depending on your time schedule. Simmer on Low – for 3 hours, or a little faster on High - for 90 minutes. Stir well then ladle into mugs garnished with a cinnamon stick, and let the party begin.

Well, heck! After simmering for 3 hours, all the alky-hol will be gone!

Why cider?

‘Cuz the only stuff I have at the house to mix with muh bourbon is apple cider, ice tea, or water.

‘Course I could always sip it straight, I guess.

Ain’t ya got coffee?

Sipping isn’t so bad, though...

Yeah, but my coffee quota for the day has already been reached.

I suppose I could make the mulled cider and put the bourbon in at the end.

I think I need some decaf coffee for such emergencies.

But mulled cider doesn’t sound like a bad way to go! Mmm...mulled cider...

That’s assuming you put the whole bottle in the cider. You wouldn’t want to waste the rest by havin’ it sit around.

I’m just sayin’ is all.

They do if they are burned out like that one Jen toasted. Clearly she did not need two though since it has been over a month and she has not fixed it. Hmmm, maybe I will fix it myself and move it to my desk.
