The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I need to name him.

How about Tarquin? Which of course is short for Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel.

Happy birthday, by the way.

How sweet!! Happy birthday!!

Joshua’s betta died day before yesterday...it’s name was Nick and after holding him for a short time, Joshua buried him in the flower bed.

It was really heartbreaking.

Ha!

I think his name is Seamus. Just ‘cause my boss is annoyed at names that aren’t spelled phonetically by usual English rules.

I think tetras are even more easy come, easy go than goldfish. :-\ Bettas seem to be a bit sturdier, as fish go.

This guy seems pretty healthy so far. He’s had his breakfast and is now zooming all around his little bowl, pausing occasionally to stare at me.

I’m not sure he’s exactly giving me friendly glances. Heh.

“No, my name is spelled ‘Raymond Luxury-Yacht’, but it’s pronounced ‘Throatwobbler Mangrove’.”

Of course HE wouldn't spell it that way. ;o)

Dang! This time I didn't get "Temporarily Unavailable", I got "Proxy Server Error", and didn't think it had posted.

They's gremlins in the system, I tell ya!

Not *quite* that way. ;-)

He said he’ll call him by his name, but in his mind and when he’s saying it, it’s spelled Shamus. Heh.

This all came up because a tech support company we’ve worked with (they do network support in the area) had a tech named Seamus, and he was astounded that anyone would spell Sean or Seamus like that. I think it’s the most proper way, personally. I have to cringe a bit when I see it spelled Shawn. It’s like folks that insist on spelling Spanish names phonetically. I saw the name “Waneeta” the other day. Nooooooo! Why oh why oh why?!?

Aw...I’m sorry to hear that.

I hope this little guy does well. I gotta say, it’s rather nice to stop work every now and then and just watch him for a minute or two. Kind of relaxing.

I’ve never had a fish before, except for a few goldfish when I was little, none of which ever lasted more than a very short while. :-\ I don’t think goldfish do as well in a small space as bettas do.

Thanks, Bear!

I forget...were you another that had an October birthday? Seems like there was at least one other Hobbit Hole regular who had a birthday near mine, and every year I forget. And I’m too lazy to check back...
