For about the first 5 days after I took him to the vet I sprayed his leg with the vinegar/alcohol, but haven’t done anything other then keep him in his run since then. He was re-shod last Fri. The farrier said the splint was still pretty sore, and would be a month healing. Personally, I didn’t think it was all that sore...and thought he was really really mashing and pressing on it harder then he needed too:). I mean, as hard as he did seem to be mashing it, I thought the reaction from the horse could have just been from the pressure not necessarily from soreness.

I’ve been tempted to give him some bute:) not so’s I can ride, but wondering if it would take any inflammation out faster...it doesn’t look swollen to me tho. But, you know me, I worry that if it isn’t hurting he’s liable to do more then he should...kind of a catch 22 thing.

I don’t know if Bute would help with that kind of inflammation... but I’d probably ask the vet. And ask if he’s really making it worse if he feels good enough to move more.

Some kind of injuries they can make it worse, like tendon injuries. But some kind of injuries are not made better or worse through movement. They just are what they are and take the time they take to heal. A splint might only be made worse IF he strikes it again in the same place. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.
