I don’t know if Bute would help with that kind of inflammation... but I’d probably ask the vet. And ask if he’s really making it worse if he feels good enough to move more.
Some kind of injuries they can make it worse, like tendon injuries. But some kind of injuries are not made better or worse through movement. They just are what they are and take the time they take to heal. A splint might only be made worse IF he strikes it again in the same place. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.
From what I’ve read and what the vet said, walking around won’t hurt it, but trotting and hard movement will. That’s why she said to keep him in a small area...discourage hard play. And no riding, or forced exercise.
Splints are cause from injuries such as he did to himself, or more frequently in young horses that are being worked to hard for growing bones. Splints are a bone injury, not soft tissue.
If I did bute, (which at this point I’ve pretty much decided not too, since he is making progress), I’d still have kept him in his run. he can run and play there, but so far hasn’t.
I’m just ready to sell him, need patience:)

I named my car Thor. It’s a Thunderbird. ;-) When I first got it, I was a little afraid of it and thought that it had a lot of power (still think that!) so I thought that Thor was a good strong powerful name. :-p
