I didn't get any fruit this year, very late freeze got all the blossoms. I'm hoping next year to get peaches and apples put up.
I can't imagine putting up a fence in 107 degree weather - you have two very determined men around :) What kind of gelding is coming?
Warning, long story coming here ....
We had horses off and on years ago and got busy and so we sold our Arab gelding. We had decided not to have any more horses - just too busy, we thought, even though we have 36 acres out here, some of which is good pasture.
About 3 weeks ago my husband and our youngest and two friends went on a guided trail ride in Montana. Meanwhile back here, our middle child (who lives next door on our land) told her husband that she would like to get a horse for their children. He was very negative about it and then a few days later she caught him researching horses online. Out in Montana, I mentioned to my husband that our youngest wanted to take riding lessons. So Mister "I never want another horse" says, well, we'll probably need to buy a horse.
When we got home, all of us find out we're all thinking about buying a horse at the same time without discussing it with each other. Then, our daughter mentioned all this to her cousin, who has ridden for years but is now expecting a baby. She told my daughter, "You can have my horse, he needs a really good home and I'll still get to see him and ride him if he's at your place."
So, we're buying a horse that has been owned by someone we know and well cared for, and we know is good with children.
There's so much we don't know and I saw the saddleclub thread, so here I am. Four of us are starting riding lessons next week. My two daughters and I have taken lessons before but it's been several years, so we're pretty rusty. Also, we want to brush up on care and all that entails.
Any must have/must do advice is welcome. We have the fresh water situation handled, the area they have fenced in is about 6 acres of mixed pasture and shade. He's been in a pasture situation so he's used to having access to grass already. They've started on the stalls so that will be handled by the time cold weather arrives (if it ever does.)
