FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Aw we didn’t ride far at all. The whole ride was confined to about 700 acres of this one guy’s farm, but hell it was so hilly that if you’d layed it out flat it would’ve covered twice that much. You could ride both sides of the same hill and never know it. Time-wise we rode from about 10:30 until around 3, but we spent much of that time standing around waiting for the stragglers to catch up, plus we had a 30 or 45 minute lunch break. But it was all worth it just for the scenery. If I lived there I’d think I’d died and gone to heaven!

I’m trying to talk Janelle into submitting the picture.

Bob is going to work with Belle on the gunshots. It apparently doesn’t seem she’s afraid of it, just doesn’t like the noise, the mud, the ice, the work. Hopefully it’s just that she’s so young.

There definately is a sign up at your place - all animals welcome here :)

Glad you found a good home for the chicken.

Yep, that’s ice Blue is trying to get up on. He loves hunting, gives 100% all day and has a ball. He acts like being taken hunting is some kind of a reward :)

Belle is much less enthusiastic, she thinks it’s a test or a job and if she does it right a couple of times, that’s all anyone should ask of her. It’s like, okay, I did it - not once but twice. Why would I want to do it again???

I’m sorry you’re sick - hot tea and lemon, and elderberry extract will help. Moving to a warmer climate would too - your weather there is awful :)

Beautiful country, no snow, no ice, no fog, no pogonip :)

Have I mentioned I hate winter?

I just now got a chance to look at your slide show.
They’ve got us blocked from watching streaming media at work, but I finally remembered to go check it out here at home. And I must say, your new place is AWESOME! Love the barn! Of course the house ain’t too shabby either. ;o) Do some pics inside the house the next time you’re there. You’ve got gorgeous views all. I’ll bet you can’t wait to get there.

I got it! Belle wants to be a Lady of Leisure.

There's some way to make her think it's worth her while. Just gotta find it.

My Shelley is a "Buckhead girl" (local toney suburb) -- she doesn't like to sit in the mud! But when she gets really excited about the birds, she forgets about the mud.

That's fabulous that Blue is a Working Man. When they love their work from the time they hit the ground, that's just the best thing ever!

Had a few 4-beaters there, did ya? Beautiful Country! Makes me wish, I should not have turned down a job in Tennessee, years ago.

Aw, pretty Rhode Island Red. I am glad you found her, before a coyote did.

Two puppies have found new homes, just the mom and one female left.

Ah - good morning... Nice country!

We had enough wind last night to make me nervous, but our trees stayed up and the power stayed on.

And now we have a dusting of snow. I could feel the temperature dropping, it’s only right at 32 but with the wind it felt like 19. We put the double blankets on the horses which will have to come off this morning, it’s supposed to be sunny all week, which will be a nice change from all the dreary!

I don’t know how they protect against coyotes at that farm... it’s wide open around there, but they did have a fenced in coop they close them in at night.

I still wonder if she managed to find the coop. I worry too much ;~)

Good job on the pups... cute little monsters. Good luck on the ones that are left.

Pogonip is a freezing fog. Forms ice crystals on everything it touchs.
