FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

And, we should say... we sent this morning a small saddle club gift from the hospital gift shop... a couple baskets with soup and cheese and fruit that will hopefully be good, and things they’ll want to eat. It was kindof a spur of the moment thing, thanks to 2J for confirming what hospital, frog thinking to do it, blade for helping to contribute and 2J for knowing that they can even do such gift baskets right there at the hospital! :~D

And I’ll have to say that the hospital gift shop had a really nice website, with very nice and reasonably-priced selections. It made ordering it SO much easier than any other time I’ve tried to do such a thing. So I e-mailed them back when I got my order confirmation and let them know that. Hopefully that’ll get somebody there a gold star.

Well, I forced myself out of the house... the horses were goofing off and I went out there to take a few pictures...

And check this out.... ~something~ is remodeling the birdhouse I put up last year... maybe a squirrel? Something has chewed the doorways much bigger. Couldn't quite see in it enough to see if they've chewed interior spaces bigger, or if there's any bedding/nesting material inside.

Whatever it is that’s moving into the birdhouse, I wouldn’t mess with it :) If it can do that to the birdhouse, think what it can do to your hand.

Heh... it’s welcome to move in... We don’t discriminate in public housing ;~) I just want to watch now and see if I can tell who it is.

I don’t think there’s any contribution needed this time around Duchess. It’s all done :~)

It’s going to be interesting to see what moves in, that’s for sure. You need one of those telescopes you see in comics with the angle that goes up and then out :)

Well, thanks very much for sending a basket to Mack. Any time, you can tap me for funds also (keep that in mind for the future, which God willing, won’t bring something like this again).

I’m picturing me trying to climb up there on a ladder to look, and having some animal leap out an attach to my face!

Hey, all, finally made it home today for the first time since Mon. You’ve all heard that the surgery went well, and he had a good day yesterday...today wasn’t so good, once again they stopped all food and water by mouth because they did another CAT scan to get ready for the chemo emboliazation of the tumor in his liver tomorrow. It will be another rough day tomorrow, but after that, nothing else till he is strong and healthy again. The risks are not as high but still there.

Seems he finally gets to eat or drink and something comes up to stop it again...sigh...I feel like I’m living in a different dimension, so I can’t imagine how he feels...

I apologize for not being in touch sooner, I thought about you all last night, but just forgot to take any phone numbers with me...so sorry. The baskets we recieved today were beautiful, and such a pick me up. I can’t thank you all enough.

I will put some of your numbers in my purse tonight so I can report in tomorrow after the procedure.

Thanks again so much, you all are the best:)

Becky

Boy, that Pony sure can get her butt up high in the air!! Any higher and she’d be going end-over-end. And the birdhouse remodeler sure has a nack for woodwork. It’s gotta be a squirrel. He must’ve thought that the birdhouse was a feeder or something. Or maybe he was just bored. But he sure did a number on those doors. Just be glad he didn’t decide to move into YOUR house!

Oh - glad to hear from you... We didn’t want to interrupt or send a posse, but we sure wanted to know what was happening.

So he didn’t get to have any of the basket food? Rats... I was hoping he would. Well, at least it’s something for you to munch on while you’re there.

I sure hope and pray for both of you. What, exactly, is chemo emoboliazation?

Becky, I’m so glad to hear that you’re doing okay. Don’t feel like you have to apologize to us, man - you’ve already got your hands full. Just know we’re thinking of you both and tell Mack we’re praying full time.

If you climb up with a ladder to look, please don’t get closer than about 12 feet okay :)

He may be able to have some of the basket food after the procedure tomorrow.

The chemo embolazation is where they run a cathater thru and artery in his leg to his liver, to inject some drug straight into the tumor. This will cut off it’s blood supply and it will die...and the liver damage will heal over time. This will stop further damage to his heart.

This is not really a cure, because the primary tumor is still in his stomach but since it’s such a slow growing cancer, it shouldn’t be a problem as long as it doesn’t cause a blockage, which it hasn’t.

The doctor’s main concerns now are his heart, but can’t do anything about it till he gets his strength. Hopefully with his horribly, and it was, dieseased gall bladder out now, he can eat pain free. He had a stone blocking it so large that the surgeon said they named it:) He said the gall bladder was shredded and scared up from other stones having gone thru it. But it seemed to take an act of God to get them to even consider that it was a problem.

Anyway, if we can get him thru tomorrow, I think he has excellent chances of coming home soon, and getting better.

Becky

Well hey there stranger!! It sure is good to hear from you again! But don’t worry about not checking in with us. You just do what you gotta do to keep Mack going and we’ll take care of ourselves. As you’ve seen, we can be quite resourceful when we have to ;o).

I’m sorry to hear that he’s back to not being able to eat again. After hearing that he felt good enough to eat something yesterday we thought the goodie baskets would be something maybe he could enjoy, but I’m sure you and the kids will enjoy them just as much. Hopefully the food restrictions will just be for a day or so and then he’ll be back on solid food again. I feel sure that the doctors have a handle on his condition and what he needs and he’s on his way to a full recovery. You just hang in there and let us know something when you can.

I have to admit I’m feeding a squirrel and a flock?covey? whatever of quail at work. The squirrel now listens for me and comes out of his hole for his food as soon as I get done and he hears the door close. I can then watch him through the window - he’s about six foot from it :)

This morning I could hear the quail all talking but didn’t see them, then looked up and they were all sitting in a tree right next to me.

Wow. Remarkable what they can do.

Well... all the best, and hope he can feel better and come home soon. I’m sure you’re just beat, it’s been a heck of a week. Critters all OK at home, did you have someone to help feed and tend them?

He’s going to feel so much better just without the pain of the gall bladder. Intense pain just saps all of your energy and strength. We’ll be praying for him through all the treatments - let him know angels are standing there beside him.
