FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

:) We got dumped on. The biggest surprise was all the rain first. We don’t get a lot of that here and 2” is a lot to handle, lots of flooding. Our annual rainfall is about 11” normally.

Fortunately, no flooding at my house yet. Water was running down the street yesterday but it changed to snow soon enough that I think we’ll be okay.

I’m having a break from the hospital, the kids are with Mack.

A quick update...FINALLY, the doctors are going to DO, something besides tests. Monday, Mack will have surgery to remove his gall bladder, which is the cause of the pain he has when he eats. In his very very weakened state, and because of his heart problems, this is a very very risky surgery, even tho it’s pretty simple. They give him a 60% chance of survival...but without this he won’t make it at all...If he can survive this, and then build his strength back THEN we can address the other problems.

So please keep him in your prayers Mon...no set time, I guess they just line up surgery patients, and take them as they get to them.

I’m sorry I haven’t had time to keep up with everyone’s posts, I have read the ones addressed to me, and want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

The weather here is great today, in the 60’s, so I’m going outside for a while, then just relax here before heading back to the hospital this evening. I’ll let you know how things go as soon as I can.

Becky

Puppy update. They are big enough now, to find new homes. The former owner is taking the mother dog to his parents house. Here they are being introduced to snow for the first time.

It was hard trying to get them all together. The female is the lighter one.

We had quite a bit of snow on Tuesday. Schools were closed on Weds. Today it is in the 50's, so its all gone.

These are the two cats we acquired. Tige, the orange one and the little gray, terror, Smokey. We are keeping them. They made themselves right at home. Whats one more cat!

Good Sunday evening everyone. Sure is quiet around here.

It was a decent weekend. I sucked it up and went to the barn, and more or less told everyone to back off and leave me alone. Got to ride too, and I feel like a human again. Also went up to the trainer's new place to put up fencing. We should be moved in the next month or two.

The sad news is that my trainer is selling Levi. I am heartbroken. She announced it yesterday, and I'm not sure if it's because she was "in a mood" or not, as at the time she certainly was. I asked her what it would take for him to "earn his keep", and her reply was "Something!" So, I'm going to offer to half lease him from her... just haven't worked up the guts to ask about it, and don't know how to go about asking in the right way. I'm also afraid to ask because I'm afraid that she'll say no.

I've been thinking about half leasing him for a while, but like I said, just haven't worked up the guts to outright ask. However, The horse and I have bonded, and I just can't imagine him not being around anymore. He's a good boy and a really really sweet horse with just enough spunk, but not enough so that he's out of control.

Becky I’ll be praying for you and Mack on Monday. I’m sure he can pull through this and get back to his old self again. I won’t even think about anything else!

Those puppies are SO cute they should be no problem to place. And I’m glad the former owner is stepping up and taking the mother dog back. Maybe this time he’ll do a little better by her, and hopefully he’ll get her spayed! And the cats are adorable. They both look so happy and content. I’m glad you’re keeping them.

Hey Beaker. Sorry to hear that the trainer’s wanting to sell Levi, but hopefully she’ll let you half-lease him. Half a lease is better than nothing, unless she’s already got somebody who can buy him outright. Maybe she’d let you lease-to-own or something like that.

Oh, just a small update to Goose's trip to the vet's...I don't think he did anything to it but look at it. He said he thought about stitching it but when he "cleaned it up" it didn't look like it would hold. Well, duh, I knew that, but if he "cleaned it up" at all then I'm a flying squirrel! When I picked him up it looked exactly like it looked when I took him over there. :-/ He did sent me home with some Uniprim (a powdered, on-the-feed antibiotic) and some Probios and told me to spray it with Granulex once or twice a day. So I paid $25 for an "exam" and $30 for the antibiotics and apparently $5 for the Probios, because the total bill was $60. He had added a can of Granulex on there, but I already had some of that so they took that off. I can buy it from Jeffers for half what he sells it for. So anyways, I'm kinda peeved at him for telling me he cleaned it up when I KNOW he didn't, or if he did, he did a p!$$-poor job of it. And he's generally not like that, but I guess you takes your chances when you leave one with them. {Sigh}
