FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Don’t know if the Bute helped, it turned crappy and will remain crappy today, so none of them are moving around much.

Good luck with Goose. Hope it isn’t too bad when they can get it cleaned up. Glad you were able to get him in there. Keep us posted!

I just called to check on him and they were swamped and hadn’t gotten around to seeing him yet, so I guess it’s a good thing I’m not still standing around there waiting. Of course if I was waiting they would have probably seen him first thing, but you never know.

Have they seen him yet now?

We had a break in the rain for a minute, so I went out and moved Bay a little. Didn't even bother to take his blanket off, just wanted a look-see. I think he's MUCH better. :~)

Bay (better) 1-4-08

Well, I called and the tech said that the vet had seen him and was probably going to just send him home with some antibiotics. So I'm not sure that they did anything to him, which ain't really what I wanted. BUT, if the vet thinks it'll be ok that way then I'm sure it's gonna be a whole lot cheaper than if he'd sedated him and debrided it. Or at least it ought to be a whole lot cheaper. I guess I'll find out when I go to pick him up here in a few minutes. :-/

Hmmm... yeah - if I go to the trouble to get a vet to see them, I want the vet to ~do~ something. ;~\

Check in tonight and let us know.

He looks so much better today. I really don’t think it’s his feet unless they are just tender when he’s barefoot. The first video looked like one side, not both were bothering him which made me think shoulder/arthritis.

Could be Duchess... At this point I do think it was mostly his feet...and they may not have been equally tender... I thought he looked sore and sorer. They both hurt. But you could be right too! I know I’ll be watching closely for awhile to try to figure that out.

I would be encouraged also. Whatever it is, it’s better today :)

Good Morning!

Everyone have a great weekend!

Hair, Bay does look better in your newest video, still a little lame, but not as bad as before. I agree that it's in his feet, but Duchess could be right about the shoulder too. If he's lame, in an older guy like him it's going to affect his shoulders simply because he is compensating and not using them correctly. Just grist for the mill. :-)

Becky, we've been thinking about you. Hope to hear from you.

Good morning... we had a wet windy wild night last night, and I think Duchess did too, from the same system, it’s huge. You OK Duchess?

I really don’t think it’s his feet unless they are just tender when he’s barefoot.

After the show season was over, we pulled the shoes off of PJ. The poor horse was so sore, until we had the farrier put shoes back on the fronts, on the next visit. He is aged and has probably been shod all his life, like Bay. It was remarkable how the horse walked off, after been shod again.

The young girl who bought Bodie is selling him. She sent me an email and said that she was having a hard time handling him when riding. I had told them before they bought him, that she was too inexperienced for that green of a horse.

Good morning - all is well here. A little over 2” of snow, about that much rain beforehand. A levee broke about 20 miles from me, so far no injuries or death but about 3500 people being/have been evacuated. A good bit of wind with the storm also.

Right now, we’ve got a break, calm, sun shining, and snow is melting off the roof. Glad you’re okay up there.

Farah and Friday are like that. Tender feet and need shoes on the front all the time.

I read about the levee break. Glad it wasn’t worse for you, I was worried from the reports of the Sierras. I bet your mountains are all white. Take some pictures!

I’m sorry to hear that she’s selling but hopefully, he’ll end up with someone that can handle him and that he clicks with. Bob and I decided we aren’t selling any more horses to beginners. I don’t know exactly how we will manage that though.

Well that’s too bad it didn’t work out. Sometimes those kids can be pretty scrappy riders!
