This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Taking the dogs off to board with their good friends Tim and Rita (we're tired of dealing with gators, wild pigs, raccoons, and snakes) then - after the Big Production of Christmas Midnight Mass - off to my parents' house!
We're singing Mozart's Spaurmesse - the Mass in C Major - in its entirety, soloists and all. Plus Gregorian chant, Palestrina, Hans Leo Hassler, English medieval carols, AND the handbell choir will ring.
Should really be something!
I’m sure it will be something :~)
Have a very Merry Christmas :~)
2 evenings ago we got some sleet and snow...not really enough to affect anything, and it was very cold.
Becky
Are you defrosted now? We missed all that garbage that you got. Been plenty cold, though.
Be safe, be warm and be happy.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Becky
Yeah, I bought Heroes Season One and it cost the same. Dang! Who'da thought we'd pay so much for a TV show!
Merry Christmas ladies!
Just woke up... gotta get some coffee in me and get animals fed then it’s up to the beach house!
Thanks Hair and a Merry Christmas to you all here on the horse thread!!
A crisp cold beautiful morning here in the Texas hill country.
Apples and carrots and oats and sweet feed to the horses and donkey in the corral, a big fire in the fireplace, and treats for cat and dog. Chocolates for me.
I am depraved. Chocolates for breakfast! I got two huge gift packages of Girardhelli (sp?) chocolates, biscotti, etc. etc. Somebody stop me.
Christmas dinner in the big city and then stepson, DIL and grandkids are coming.
“Over the river and through the woods...”
Merry Christmas everyone - have a great and blessed day.
Thank you, I will!
And as for the chocolates...wish I could share with you all. The best ones are the truffles with a powdery dark chocolate coating on the outside.
Those are the ones that make you want to slap your grandma.
But since at present I have no grandma, but in fact I AM grandma,
I guess I will have to eat the last one and slap myself.
LOL The chocolate sounds delicious :)
I’m making fudge in a bit. It’s a Christmas tradition in my family going way back. When cars were big and kids could sleep where they wanted, I remember lieing on the floorboard behind the drivers seat and sneaking fudge, where they stored it, all night long on the way home.
Merry Christmas to the Free Republic Saddle Club!
I have been quiet lately what with school and then the holidays. One more semester to go!! Pinning is May 8!
Will try to take a photo of my $.99 Christmas tree later. We are leaving to visit family in Louisville, KY tomorrow so I have a lot of getting ready to get ready!
Good for you and Merry Christmas.. I have one son that just graduated. My sister that used to post here is in nursing school too. I think she has 3 semesters to go. My middle son just started 2 weeks ago.
The first semester was probably the hardest. Everything was new and learning the skills in lab was more stressful than I thought it would be because of the testing method. I am told that 4th semester is hard too as the teachers don’t give you a lot of support and expect you to know what to do or to figure it out. But, I am not going to go in with any preconceptions. Clinicals have always been my strongest area anyway. We have about a month and 1/2 of clinicals, then we begin our transition clinicals where we are assigned to a preceptor (a real working nurse). We have to work alongside the preceptor in the work setting for 56-60 hours. Once that is done, clinicals are over, so I could conceivably be done with clinics by the end of March. Then, we have a 2-credit leadership course that is mostly done online. That will be a piece of cake for me as I worked in corporate settings for almost 20 years and at times managed teams of people.
Tell your sister and son to persevere because it gets hard at times. And, you don’t have much of a family and personal life during the semester. But, it will all be worth it in the end when you get pinned. And, tell that son that just graduated congratulations! Because he has really achieved something.
We have lost a few from our original class. Some didn’t make the grade in lecture but excelled in clinicals. I feel really bad for the ones who had the attitude and desire, and worked hard but still didn’t make it. The ones who didn’t take it seriously enough to sacrifice the time and didn’t make the necessary committment, I don’t really feel sorry for. I wouldn’t want to work with them anyway. Through clinicals, I have already seen differences between nurses. And, as a result, I have learned how to conduct myself from the good role models, and seen what not to do/say from the poor ones.
I will probably continue on to my BSN but have to pass NCLEX and get an internship too.
Yeah. You shouldn’t loose many more. Most of the culling has been done already. Don’t worry about the 4th semester. Those that get thru 2 and 3 are tough and have learned how to survive:’)
