FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Ugh - sloppy mess out there...

The horses have barely left the barn in days and the stalls were bad. Clean and dry now... for now...

If you want snow, I'll send you some of mine in a box. Refridgerated so it won't melt.

My dad called to tell me that he up a firearms permit request at the police station. I think he might be getting me a spot in a firearms class for Christmas. It's a requirement to get an FIC or an LTC here in MA. I'm Wicked Excited. Getting my LTC has been on my list of Things To Do, but I haven't yet because of the money involved. There's a rediculous amount of red tape involved as well, which is another reason why I've delayed it. I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but I have to:

1) Write a letter to the Chief of Police stating the reason why I'm requesting said LTC.

2) Have 2 reference letters from non relatives.

3) Complete a firearms safety class.

4) And of course, a significant sum of money.

Yikes.

We have to go to the Courthouse and pay money, and fill out a form and be fingerprinted the first time.

They do some checks. It comes in the mail two weeks later :~)

Dang Beaker! If you get much more you're gonna need a periscope to see around the corners when you're driving!

Wow.

Sounds like when my husband was in N.J. He had to go through all that red tape stuff too, just to BUY a .45 pistol, never mind carry it.

He was in the Army Reserves at the time, so he was fooling around with tanks, .50 cal machine guns, and grenades one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer, all with the Army's junky .45 on his hip since he was "A Nofficer" . . . he got his CO and a unit member who was a police chief to sign his application. It STILL took SIX MONTHS to get his flippin' permit to BUY ONE PISTOL.

Around here, nobody cares how many firearms we buy. The best thing about applying for a carry permit is that it allows you to fill out the forms on the spot and carry whatever you buy away without a background check.

You just go see the Probate Judge and fill out a form, pay $25 and give them your fingerprints. The carry permit shows up in the mail about 4 weeks later.

Great job on the video!

Lots of hard work there, but it sure was enjoyable.

I just about do. I have to nose out a little bit before I take corners, and then take them carefully. It's really dangerous, especially since I work in an industrial park with lots of trucks.

Hair was more or less saying the same thing. In NJ, though, you just about have to be related to a member of the government to get a carry permit. I looked into it more, and I actually have to schedule a time to bring down my paperwork and have an "interview" with the chief of police. I'm not worried about the letters of reference, as I can get them from two NRA lifers, one who is a firearms instructor. We have to pay $100.00 for an new carry fee, I think it's $70.00 for a renewal. All of it is a headache, but it's something that I've really wanted for a while now.

Yes, Sunday it snowed all day and we had an accumulation up over 6 inches. Schools were closed on Monday.

Doing fine, just busy with getting ready for Holidays.

Hey Frog, and everybody! I’m doing fine, just busy with Christmas. I’m almost finished shopping. Mina is as sweet as ever but I haven’t been doing anything with her. I’ll send her to a trainer after the first of the year. If she does well, I’ll have a horse to ride this spring.

“I hate it when it’s like that. Depresses the heck outta me. We’re kinda dreary here too, but at least it’s not real cold, just damp.”

Glad to know I’m not the only one with that reaction to dark, damp weather. Gonna be sunny and 74 today but we do have a cold front heading this way. High tomorrow is twenty degrees cooler but I don’t think it’s going to be dreary.
