FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I think it’s a good idea. I always worry about my babies when they go to new homes. I’d rather buy them back so to speak than have them in a bad situation.

I watched the one of Bay - I like it. I’ll try to watch the other one later.

Hope all is going okay with you. I cringe when I read about your ice and snow there. Be careful :)

Everything is fine. :-) I haven't ridden in a couple of weeks, and I miss the ponies. The barn is also moving soon, and I've tried to catch up with my trainer to figure out when that is, so I don't lose track of everything.

I watched them both last night at home and they’re really, REALLY good! But the one of Pony is just beyond words. That song is absolutely PERFECT for her and the pictures you picked to go with it just really tell the story. Now I know why you’ve been so quiet here lately coz I’ll bet those took some serious time. GOOD JOB!

Thanks... :~D

It was a lot of fun to do... and I too think the pony one came out particularly good :~)

Well, I e-mailed her my terms of sale, with the added delivery cost and the return policy terms and she agreed, so I guess little Miss Ellie is going to a new home just north of Chattanooga this coming Saturday. Now I’m just a bundle of nerves, and I’m sure I’m gonna squall when I hand her over. But they sound like a nice couple. They have a little girl and 2 or 3 other horses so it should be a nice place for her.

Aw... I know I’d be squalling.

I hope it works out and you don’t ~need~ language about taking her back. She’s really well started and ready to go, you done good raising her right :~)

Oh a lighter note, the wreath on the trunk at the end of the couch appears to be a cat-magnet. When I got out of the shower this morning, Buster had stolen it from Bear and was sleepily lounging away...

He's Pitiful!

It must, because there's scarcely a moment that there's not a cat in it. I was going to hang it on the door, but I guess I've just conceeded it to the cats, at least for the Christmas Season. After that I guess I should try to find something similar for them to lay in since they seem to enjoy it so much. But knowing my luck, and knowing how cats are, whatever I pick, with that specific purpose in mind, will not be deemed worthy.

Yeah - if you make them a bed, they won’t use it. I put nice cushy blankets inside a crate for the cats to curl up in on the porch, and they sit on top of it instead ;~)

On the other hand, the feral calico (I think there’s only one now) is using the dogloo full of straw I put on top of the cabinet in the barn. I see her on it every night and she’s there in the morning when I come out to feed. Unfortunately, she’s very spooked by me. She runs out whenever I come in, and I’m not sure if she’ll ever relax. She scaled over the wall and under the pony’s legs and was gone. I don’t know how to tell her I’m not gonna hurt her.

Is she the one you tried to catch in the crate?

One of them yeah... But when I was feeding them on the porch, she’d still come up and eat when I was out there, if I had the good stuff... the canned stuff or tuna...

But now that I’m feeding her out in the barn to get them to move out there, I just dump it in the bowl and go and she’s gotten more wild. I don’t think I’ll ever tame her now.

It’s so rainy windy and nasty out right now... it’s dark and not getting lighter.

I wish it was snow, it would at least be pretty to look at. :~\

Yeah, you could, it’ll just take more time. You’d have to sit out there with her while she eats, like you did on the porch, and just do nothing for a long time. Then start back up with moving and getting closer. You know the drill. You just took the shortcut last time and it backfired on ya.

But if you don’t do something with her, you’re gonna have a boat load of kittens on your hands come springtime. If you don’t have time to tame her yourself, you may have to set out a Have-A-Heart trap and catch her that way. Then maybe you can do like you were saying and keep her in the back room for a while and tame her down and get her spayed.

I hate it when it's like that. Depresses the heck outta me. We're kinda dreary here too, but at least it's not real cold, just damp.

I know... that's what I'm afraid of.

I should sit out there, it's just not as easy as it was on the porch, with me going out to smoke all the time anyway. I could have the food and take advantage when I saw her.

Which I could still do... I could go back to putting 'good' food on the porch in the evenings... and see if she'd still come up for it.
