FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Ooooo, the star effect on those lights is cool. Is there some setting on the camera that does that or is it in Photoshop? I know in the old days, people used to have to put vaseline on the lense to get that effect so I’m sure whatever ecurbh used is a whole lot cleaner than that. I imagine trying to get vaseline off of a camera lense is a real pain.

It was a photoshop thing :~) Much cleaner than vaseline :~)

I listened to the commentary on Fiddler on the Roof once, and they achieved the brown/tinted sepia tone and grainy quality to the movie by shooting the whole film through panty hose stretched over the lens :~)

Good morning. Homer’s got to get another round of predisone today. He’s making us nuts with the itching.

We are watching it for the first time. Season 3 had started already when we first started watching season 1.

Ah - well, I’ll say that while I got a little irritated with the first half of season 3... but the last half was better.

I’ve only watched 2 episodes so far...I mentioned to Mack that I hope they are not writing out all the people on the beach that were in the first two seasons. So far there has been no mention of most of them.

That will, unfortunately, continue for awhile till you’re pretty tired of the weird others and their mind games.

But there is a few interesting developments later... hang in there.

Heh, low-tech but effective...and cheap.

I just picked up the season 1 DVD of Heroes. I'm pretty well addicted to that one. If LOST doesn't hurry up and start for this season it may as well start calling itself LOST Interest! I can't even remember half of what was going on in last season.

Me either... I’m gonna need a good refresher to even remember.

Well, and the other bad thing is that they only got 8 episodes finished before the writers strike began, so there’s going to be another mid-season break for who knows how long, just like there was last year, even though they started the season late to try to avoid that. AND if that wasn’t bad enough, depending on how long the strike lasts, they may not have enough time to finish the whole season worth of episodes before the scheduled end of the TV season. Now don’t that just suck!

You know what? I JUST remembered about our promise to help you make a puzzle for a present. I completely forgot and dropped the ball on it. Is it too late now?

Good Morning everyone!

Hope you all have a great day. It's bitterly cold here. Ice and slush from the second storm that we had on Sunday has iced over the roads, making driving- ~interesting~. I did a bit of a spin trying to pull into the parking lot at work yesterday morning. I hit some black ice, and my back end slid one way and then one of my front tires caught an ice rut, and the rest is history. I'm fine, the car is fine, but it sure woke me up!

Well, I’m sorry I dropped the ball on it.

I need help with that, and it’s a bummer when ecurbh isn’t here all day any more. Maybe we can get it together for a different gift-giving occasion!

Hey, I need y’all’s advice real quick. I’ve got a lady that wants to buy Ellie but she lives in Chattanooga and wants me to deliver her, and that’s fine. I’d rather her get to try her out and know exactly what she’s getting. But I’m thinking that I’m going to tell her that if she keeps her for 2 weeks and it’s just not working out that I’ll refund her money and take her back, as long as the horse is in the same shape she was sold in, otherwise I’d deduct the cost of any medical care that the horse might need. What do you think? Am I crazy to do that? Is that legally stupid? I just want to make sure that Ellie goes somewhere where she’s going to stay.

I think it’s definitely good for Ellie, and I think shows the woman that you’ll stand behind her. It would mean a great deal to me.

Well, I just didn’t want to leave myself open for something like she takes her and God forbid something happens and she ends up lame for the rest of her life. I’d still take her back, because she’s one of my babies, but I wouldn’t want to be expected to refund the full purchase price either.

I think your description of the exit clause sounds good. If she’s hurt and needs doctoring, you’ll deduct any and all costs of that. You’re not going to jack her around about cuts and scrapes, only something major. If she’s in good shape, you’ll refund everything. What about your return trip costs? That would be fair too, depends on what you want to do and how painless you want it to be for her to back out.

Factoring in pick-up cost is a good idea too. I hadn’t thought of that.
