This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hi Ladies! I’m being bad and posting while in class. Heh. Hope everyone is having a good morning!
Hey Beaker! Don’t let ‘em catch ya and smack you with a paper!
Not the world's greatest researcher, but couldn't find where this was posted................a friend sent this along, it interested me and I thought others would be interested, as well...................
Hey, thanks for the link Soozla! I’m definitely going to e-mail my senator and ask him to support this bill. We’ve already suffered way too much horse-trail loss in my nearby National Forest and I sure would like to get the chance to have some of them given back to us. And when I went Googling S.2283 I found some other cool links while I was at it so that was an added bonus. Thanks again!
Thanks everyone.
No power at the house yet. We went back home about 3:00 this morning,,just couldn’t get comfortable here. Came back this afternoon, to kill time.
The animals are all fine. The ice is all gone now, and the weather has warmed up some.
Becky
So what you need down at the building is a couple big soft couches ;!)
Hope you can get power at the house soon.... Mostly because I want to see the pictures!
I guess I should take some of town, but how many downed trees do you really need to see:)?
Becky
As many as it takes to paint the scene of what it was like there.
Well the pecan tree groves are really interesting...pecan trees do not do well in holding up under ice at all...
BEcky
Did they still have leaves on them? I saw some trees on the news that still had leaves, and they didn’t do well at ALL.
Nah, the pecan trees were pretty bare because they had harvested the pecans...when they shake the trees to get the pecans the leaves come too. Pecan trees just don’t bend, at all...so they could do nothing but break.
Becky
None of your trees bend. It’s really remarkable. I learned that right away on the first ride, being just about swept out of the saddle by a little tiny branch!
LOL...Yeah the Oak trees are bad about that:)
REmember the cotton wood tree that was by Rocky’s run that made the noise when the wind blew...it lost a whole lot of branches...it’s going to look like a different tree next year.
Mack said it will grow new branches, but I can imagine how it will look looking at it now.
Becky
Can’t wait to see. It’ll mean a lot more to see the change now that I’ve been there.
Glad to hear things are warming up there.
I hate to hear that about those pecan trees. They were so pretty, and amazingly huge, given the small size of most of the rest of the trees around there. I guess they won’t be getting very many pecans off of them for a couple of years. It’ll take them that long to recover from the limb loss.
Down one of our roads.
Becky
They are predicting bitter cold and 2-3 inches of snow this weekend:(
Becky
WOW!! That’s incredible! I’m glad that one that was so close to the house didn’t come on down any worse than it did! It could’ve taken a big chunk outta your roof if it had. That poor cottonwood looks really sad too, but it looks like your redbud in the garden handled it pretty well and just bent. You’ll have your work cut out for you when you start to clean up all that mess!
I hate to hear about the predicted snow, but at least it won’t be as bad as the ice and will be a whole lot prettier. Hopefully you’ll have power by then too!
Woo hoo! Welcome to civilization! Glad you’ve got your power back.
Yikes! What a mess. Going to be a big bonfire in your future. Your little garden tree is holding up well, all considering!
Thanks for the pictures... are there more?
