FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Everything you said is what she said, I just couldn’t remember the order:)

Talking about big bucks...I was pleasantly surprised the bill was only $30...she took 2 exrays of his leg...I didn’t think that was bad at all. She’s a very down to earth person, has told me before she thinks a lot of the equine specialists around here rape people with the prices they charge. She knows she’ll get more of us peons to come in when we need too if we aren’t going to go broke coming in.

She is slowly building her clinic to be pretty nice...she has a nice barn now, not completely finished but what there is of it is nice, her equipment looks all older model stuff, but hey, it works...she’s getting some nice outdoor pens up. It’s like she is building things as she can pay for them rather then borrow and make her patients make the payments:)

Wow, that IS a deal for an office visit and two x-rays! Seems like when I had Tennessee’s feet x-rayed it was about $40 for EACH FOOT. So sounds like you’ve got a good one there.

Cultivate THAT vet!

I hope she's able to find a market niche for that sort of service. Sounds like she's very sensibly staying within her means and offering what she can at reasonable prices.

My vet is pricey, I would love to have a cheaper one. On the other hand, they have in house a lot of equipment (like their own lab and ultrasound and so forth) that would be even more expensive if they had to refer out to a specialist.

Run naked day! :~)

Can you see the little rainbow? It was clear as day in person, but didn't show up well in the pictures. I really had to play with the exposure to get it to show up at all. Anyway, it was a cheerful sign after all this crappy weather. :~)

Now out to strip stalls.

I see a little snippet of it along the right-hand edge. But the sky sure does looker nicer than the rest of the cold dreary pictures you've been posting lately. I'm glad for ya!

Can't see the rainbow, but I can see the Sun Dog (parahelion) over on the right-hand side of the screen.

Rainbows with Sun Dogs are especially good luck.

Thanks :)

I’m interested in hearing about the Cirque Dreams - what is it?

Hope you had a good day, despite the weather.

Thanks for the rosary, it’s very appreciated. It sounds very scary to me also, I’m amazed at how well and upbeat she sounds.

It's probably like my dad says about WWII - "you do what you have to!"

I said a Rosary specially for her this morning in the car on the way to work -- it's much better to spend time in traffic that way than cussing at the other drivers -- Atlanta traffic is famously bad and getting worse!

Lori does have an incredible attitude :) - she’s the one who was riding 50 mile endurance while on dialysis. That was in the beginning, before she had so many health problems.

In NC the law stated that if you had a halter on your horse and it was hit by a car, you had proof that you had attempted to control the horse, therefore you were not liable for damages. Lots of people pastured horses with halters because of that law. Don’t know what it is here in Nevada but since we are a free range state, I believe if someone hits my horse, they are responsible for damages to me - or something like that.

That is really a scary picture. There are house boats sitting on dry land. Hope your govenor prevails.

LOL I’ve got a yard full of quail doing the same thing. Have to say, I’d rather quail than turkey.

Yes, her attitude is really good. I’m convinced of the power of prayer and this is sure proof.

It’s good to know what it is though, even if it will take longer to heal. I didn’t realize a bone bruise would do that. Nor that Foal Lac will help with the healing. Learn something new everyday :)

LOL - I was thinking this morning on my way to work (a really beautiful day) GOOD MORNING GOD -sorta of al la Robin Williams in Good Morning Viet Nam. Yes, much better for the blood pressure than stressing over traffic.

Too many houses around to take a shot and they seem to know when the hunting season ended.

We have that same issue with deer. A couple of weeks ago at work, we had a herd of 4 deer just hanging out on our front lawn. We're in the middle of an industrial park! It was two young does, a spike horn buck, and an older doe who kept hiding in the woods and sending smoke signals to the younger ones! ;-) I took pictures with my cell phone camera, I should try to upload them to my computer.
