This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
We were out at the polo fields, most of the horses have headed south for the winter, but the owner leaves a few young unbroken horses here to winter over. We're out running the dogs, and here come two matching gray fillies out to see what the humans are up to. They were absolutely unafraid -- tried to steal my bumpers and then tried to steal dog treats . . . I spoke to them and persuaded them to walk off with me a few yards, then just continue in that direction. Fortunately my dogs don't care about horses one way or the other, they just looked at them.
I don't DO flood stage creeks or rivers, but there are plenty of Class V lunatics out there that do.
Up where my daughter goes to summer camp in Western NC, there's part of the Green River called the Narrows that nobody but a crazy person would think of paddling. There are falls on there that look just like your pictures, only the water is white instead of flood stage brown. We put in BELOW the Narrows and watch the crazy people come out of the last chute with their eyes as big as saucers.
Unfortunately, they tend to lose a paddler or two in the Narrows every year.
Frog, great pictures :)
Hair, hope you keep that weather up there, we surely don’t want it down here. The pictures make me cold.
Becky, I’m sorry Harley is still not sound. Hoping the vet has some ideas.
Everyone :)
Lori called me this evening and we visited for an hour. She first wanted to thank everyone for their prayers. Miracles and wonderful doctors got her through the first surgery. She has nothing but good to say about the doctors and nurses at the hospital, they have all been wonderful and are taking excellent care of her.
She’s hoping to be home by Christmas (I would not be surprised, she really is a fighter.) The doctors have not ruled out a transplant in the future, they are focusing right now on getting her over the infection. Apparently with all the scar tissue and adhesions, her bowels started falling apart during the surgery. They are keeping her abdomen open to facilitate healing the infection and the bowels.
She is very upbeat and determined to heal and get home. She believes that the kidney she was to receive was not the right one but if it’s meant to be, another one will come. If not, she will deal :) And continued prayers would be appreciated.
Added to her thanks are mine. I sure do love and respect this girl. She is very much like a family member to us.
Certainly sounds more hopeful about Lori, although still scary! I will say a Rosary for her today. Prayers continue.
I heard on the late news last night that the horse that was in the accident with the police car suffered a broken leg, but a vet was treating it...the owner has still not come forward.
Becky
Good morning.
Thanks for the well wishes for Harley.
Becky
Oh, and just remembered...I saw on the news also that you were going to get some bad weather last night...how’d you make it?
Becky
Huh... I can’t imagine not reporting if I had a horse missing. Well, hope all goes well for horse and cop.
Last night was not bad at all. The wind part is over. There’s record flooding on some of the rivers, but that’s not a risk here.
We did OK! Not a bad storm at all... for us. really high winds at the coast, but I think the Capital forest hills protected us a little. Or something did ;~) They were never real bad.
I like her spirit. Prayer continued.
Well, I think the laws are that if your horse is involved in a car accident you are liable, and will be fined, I imagine since it’s a cop, and caused injury, it would be pretty severe fine.
Becky
Yeah - but I’d still come forward, I’d still want to tend my horse... I guess I wouldn’t imagine they wouldn’t eventually find out whose it was anyway.
Where’s my mind..
Duchess, I meant to add to my post to you about what Cindy said. I believe attitude has a big part in healing, and Lori sounds to have a great attitude. Hoping for the best for her.
And Hair, glad you all did OK, and that the winds have died:)
Becky
Very good news on Lori. Glad you had such a good talk, and I hope she makes it home for Christmas.
I’m a firm believer that kids can SIT. Next time set some lawn chairs up and threaten them if they get up (you have to mean it though:’). Just make sure strangers know they are yours. I have a 2 y/o granddaughter that screams “help me” when I make her park.
I imagine I’d come forward too...it would be the responsible thing to do.
I’d think too they’d eventually find out. But you know, I don’t know the horses of my neighbors all that well...and the horse looked to be just an average looking horse, nothing that stood out to identify him. From the pictures they showed of him I don’t think the break could be that bad...he was standing fine, and pawing the ground pretty hard with one front leg...
Becky
LOL!
Becky
The local news here is making the most of it -- "130 MPH WINDS!" . . . "END OF THE WORLD!" . . .
Oh here too. And there were very high winds elsewhere. Lots of weather people standing out in the storm, shouting about how windy it is. ;~)
Just wasn’t bad right ‘here’. The coast got slammed, and all the highways that lead out there were impassible because of downed trees and mudslides. It’s like looking at another world watching the news, because this time, we didn’t feel it that bad. Part of the benefit is that all the water isn’t really news to us, we can take all the rain and not flood.
