This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I do believe he looked this close >< to being right too. Not sure if the bit of head bobbing I did see was just from the ground and rocks.
I’m going to check him again today...if he is no worse after the fit he had yesterday, I’d say he is OK, and maybe do a short ride tomorrow on him.

I’m so sorry to hear this Duchess. I’ll continue to pray for her recovery. She’s young so hopefully that will work in her favor. BladeRider’s brother developed a condition similar to this last year after his auto accident and they managed to pull him through it. His abdomen was open for a very long time but they were eventually able to get it to heal, so hopefully they’ll be able to do the same for Lori. Sometimes all we can do is leave it in God’s hands and know that he will take care of it.
I didn’t get a chance to watch the videos last night because I went to that Purina nutrition seminar, but I’m glad to hear that you think he’s about back to his old self.
The seminar was very informative and I really enjoyed it. I showed the guy my hay analysis and was pleased to hear that he agreed that the best product for my situation was the Born to Win Supplement. I had wondered about the Free Balance 12:12, which is essentially a mineral block balanced for a hay-only diet, but he said that my hay didn’t have enough protein in it so the Born to Win was a better fit. So I guess that’s what I’ll go with. And I also found out that they’ve stopped using the NSC level as a measure of total carbs and are using something else that can be more accurately measured. He told me what it was called but I can’t remember. He said that the current feed analysis tests don’t even show NSC anymore. I didn’t have a hay analysis done this year because I got my hay from the same field as last year so I didn’t know this. I guess I need to go back over to the Equine Cushings/IR Yahoo Group and catch up on the latest info.

Well it sounds like they cover a different topic every time, so I can see where it would be worthwhile to do that. Plus they gave out some nice door prizes. I got a couple of bags of horse treats and a weight tape and Kari won a year’s subscription to Equus Magazine. They had free pizza, cokes and cookies too so that ain’t bad at all.
LOL...took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at...good lord, I hope they weren’t used ones:)

Well, I picked up all my stick piles raked from the driveway, the ones in the yard can wait.
Got stalls cleaned and new shavings and got Bay’s feet treated.
Supposed to start raining any time and may turn to snow tonight! I’m actually quite excited about it, but we’ll probably just get slush and mud...
LOL! That’s hysterical.
We've ordered prints from them several times, and have marveled every time at how fast they are, and how nice their prints come out. I just ordered this picture of Bay in 11x14 for my wall, and it's gorgeous.
We also ordered our Christmas Cards from them, using our group photo, we ordered a couple 8x10s of our group picture without the hats too, to give as gifts to family, and they threw in a few free prints.
In looking around their store, they have all kinds of cool stuff, personalized calendars where you can insert as many pictures as you want, mugs, mousepads... just lots of cool stuff. And they're fast.
Shameless plug, but I think they've done really good business and I wanted to pass it along.

Hair - sending you text of a message I posted on a breed board. Please feel free to post info if you want. Am kind of in meltdown mode and not sure if I can talk about it or just want to crawl into a hole.
Last Wednesday afternoon I arrived at the barn to feed and found Deuce’s lower legs covered in blood and him shocky. We later found the cause of the injuries to be wire from the fence that was dragged into the pasture by all the deer running through. It had to have happened very recently.
Anyway both front and hind left legs involved. Hind is healing nicely with sutures above the hoof line. The severity of the front foot injury was not immediately apparent. Vet stitched it up and commented that he would have liked to put a drain it it but the location precluded it. Deuce was put on large doses of SMZ’s and painkiller, and I had instructions on how to change the dressings. Well, infection developed in that foot and the vet had to come open things and flush it. Long story short, he’s not out of the woods with the infection. Is at our wonderful trainer who will work with the vet and farrier to deal with this. He’s on a much stronger antibiotic course and will be unwrapped and flushed again Wednesday. I’m leaving out a lot of technical details because I’m in a heap of panic.
Anyway, for those of you who are the praying sort I’d appreciate it if you could include Deuce.

11/29 Edited to add:
Deuce crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday at the much too young age of 6. When the damaged portion of his hoof was removed to promote healing it became apparent that the original damage to the anatomy of his foot was much worse than anyone realized. Saying goodbye is so hard but sometimes it’s the kindest thing to do.
I want to thank Yogi McCormick for the super human effort he put in on this horse. Deuce was a tough minded guy but Yogi understood exactly how to deal with him. He was there with him at the end and is buried on his farm and for that I’ll be forever grateful.
This has been a tough few months as we just lost Whitey over the summer. I want to thank all of my friends and family for their love, kindness and support.
