Cartman is probably having a great time chasing mice and butterflies around the Rainbow Bridge . . . .
Actually, the Shell is a pretty good watchdog. She barks to raise the dead if anybody comes in our yard - she sounds like a gross of Rottweilers. And I don't know what she'd do to a stranger in her yard, but she is a holy terror to any dog or cat that dares to set foot in her yard.
Ruby is in the Apprentice stage, she watches Shelley and follows on behind (once she's sure it's safe).
No wonder then they were in the back yard - no one to raise any kind of alarm. If Shelley is territorial then Ruby will get there :) Blue will lick someone to death or jump up on them. Belle is more standoffish, could be she’s taking her training from the queenslands beside her. Her personality is completely different from Blue’s, as is her behavior.
I've found the Lab boys to generally be a little goofier and friendlier than the girls. Although you'd be hard put to find two more friendly Labs than mine! I was afraid they wouldn't pass Canine Good Citizen on Monday, because they love to hug and kiss EVERYBODY - but they were on their best behavior, thank goodness, and both passed. (I wasn't really worried about Shelley, she's a well trained dog, but Ruby the Egregious has a very thin crust of manners over a volcano full of Crazy Puppy . . . )
“a very thin crust of manners over a volcano full of Crazy Puppy . . . )”
describes Blue to a T. Belle is reserved except with family and any kids. Bob takes them out to run on the ATV. When he puts them down, Blue takes off and runs all over. Belle stays within about 30’ of the ATV and eventually wants back up. I keep telling Bob it’s because she knows her job is just to point at birds, not retreave them.
Sounds like she turned out to be more of a quiet little girl after all. I still remember that first winsome photo of her when she came home — those big brown wistful eyes!
I have got to get some pictures of them for you. They are both going duck hunting tomorrow in the wee hours of the morning. It will be interesting to hear how it goes. Belle’s first time out.
Good luck to them - hope they bring home lots and have a good time . . .
Great picture:)
With the hat on Barkley’s expression is just so funny. I know it was photoshopped on, but it really makes him look different as far as expression.
Do you get hard copies of these pictures?
Becky
We printed the one from a couple years ago, to give to the folks for the mantle, you know... Maybe we’ll do that with this one :~)
I think the drawn on hats are even cuter than real ones would be :~)
I colicked today. Only way I can describe it. Had terrible pain that lasted too long, felt like my guts were twisted or pinched or going to explode or something... I tried rolling around, I tried walking around but I’d get dizzy like I was going to pass out and I’d want to lay down. I was > < this close to saying I needed to go to the emergency room.
Then it passed. I was not much of a lady all afternoon, but phew!
Hope all is well at your place!
I’m sorry your were ill....where was your pain...do you have your appendix? could be gall bladder.
We’re doing OK. Went to town this evening and watched a movie. Now we are home getting ready to crash for the night.

Well that really sucks about the furniture! I can’t believe they don’t have SOME kind of accountability, but I’ll bet they’ve got so much legalese worded into the moving contract that they’ve got their butts covered. But it’s just not right that you have to sign away all your rights just to get your furniture moved. I guess all you can do now is just bad-mouth them every chance you get.
You’ve probably already thought of this, but you might want to report them to the BBB. Having a bad report there might hurt them a little bit.
I tried to go off by myself as much as I could ;~)
But it was real interesting from a horse-owner perspective. I’ve certainly had stomach cramps before, even gas pain, but nothing like this. It’s like the vet has said when he was out, there’s probably lots of mild colics that we don’t recognize because the symptoms are too vague, the horse just isn’t feeling ~great~.
When it is bad, the symptoms can still not make a lot of sense. But now I know exactly why they want to get up and lay down, I know exactly why they want to roll, and I know why they break into a sweat, and why walking around is good, but that they need to be given some choice because sometimes doing that hurts so bad it makes their head swimmy.
I had some Pepto... was thinking maybe I really needed Banamine ;~)
Good morning all :~)
It was crystal clear but cold and windy. I fed the horses early and cleaned the barn out. They really make a mess in there when I leave it open and they can stand around and eat hay all night long. I do shut them out of there during the day though, unless it's raining. After that I came back home and cleaned out my flower beds and planted my pansies. I'd bought 4 flats plus 3 hanging baskets at Home Depot because I had a $100 gift card from the rewards program on my credit card. That works out pretty well. I spend the money I'm going to spend anyways, then I get gift cards back that I can use for this kinda stuff. Anyways, I got them all planted, but DANG it kills my back and knees while I'm doing it. But I sure do like having bright cheery flowers around all winter so I guess it's worth the pain.
Yesterday I went on an organized trail ride with my cousin Pat. She's the one who broke her hip this summer riding a misbehaving horse for a boarder at her son's barn. Her hip healed nicly and she's just now getting back into riding. Everybody at the barn was going and all their other horses were being ridden by somebody else so I took Ellie for me to ride and Hope for her. Her son and DIL were riding, as well as her daughter's two daughters, so I think she really wanted to go, and she knew that Hope wouldn't beat her to death like some of the other horses she could have borrowed. It was ok I guess, but not my normal crowd. There were lots of kids and inexperienced riders and they went much too slow for my liking, but the scenery was nice and they had a very nice free lunch of piping hot chicken stew and all kind of desserts at the end so that made it a little bit more bearable. I took a few pics so here they are...
This fiberglass buffalo they had out in the front pasture where everybody was parking was really funny looking, and I didn't even THINK about it when I parked beside it that it might turn out to be the BoogerOfAllBoogers, but when I unloaded the horses from the trailer, of course it was. It was SO funny! I got Hope out first, and she didn't even notice it, but when I got Ellie out, she saw it and it was BoogieTime. She was dipping and dodging and snorting on the end of that lead like a hooked fish. She didn't bolt, but she thought about it. I lead her up to it (as close as I could get her) and touched it and rubbed it but she still wasn't buying, but she did stand still. Then I walked her all around it, both ways, and she was a little more relaxed but wouldn't come within 5 feet of it until I went up to it's head and stuck my nose to it's nose and blew, and then she decided that it must be ok and walked up and did the same and then she was fine. Then I had to go through all that again with Hope, only Hope was MUCH more skeptical. But the nose to nose blow worked for her too. Then nobody even looked at it again after that, as you can see in this picture...
Everybody getting ready to head out. That's my cousin on Hope there in the plaid jacket...
Heading down the side of the road towards the trail. I think there were probably 50 horses there...
We got stopped on this rocky hill and my cousin was about to freak out. Her two granddaughters were the ones right in front of me and she just KNEW that their horses were going to step backwards and fall off that hill. It was so funny because she's an absolutely fearless rider herself, but she's just a nervous nellie when it comes to those grandkids. But the horses were fine and the kids were fine. It was kinda aggrivating though because the reason we got stopped was because somebody at the front of the line saw a waterfall off to the left side of the trail and just HAD to stop and look at it and take pictures of it, totally oblivious to the fact that they had everybody else hosed up half way up that hill. Grrrrrr! Makes you want to slap somebody!...
The feed afterwards...
And that was the ride. It was fun, but I don't really want to do that again anytime soon. My cousin will just have to come ride with ME next time! ;o)
Oh, and Hair, the Christmas pic was brilliant, as usual! You really do a nice job of getting all that together. I finally bought Photoshop so I’m definitely going to learn how to do that. Thanks for showing it to us!
