FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Yikes! What happened to the horse? I must have missed that one.

I named my car Thor. It’s a Thunderbird. ;-) When I first got it, I was a little afraid of it and thought that it had a lot of power (still think that!) so I thought that Thor was a good strong powerful name. :-p

I’m sorry about the horse that had to be put down - I hope you get the results of the test soon.

It’s been slow here - that’s good, since I’m so behind.

Kitchen is moving along. Thanksgiving will be on paper plates but with lots to be thankful for. Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving if I don’t get back before then.

Good Morning everyone!

My apologies for not pinging everyone yesterday. We've had major network issues (a huge crash) that only just got resolved last night, and even now things aren't quite right. Last night I went to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and it has to have been the best show that I have ever seen. Their music is always fantastic, but this year they went all out with pyrotechnics and lasers, and fire and mobile stages. They were in a converted hockey rink, so I guess that gave them license to go wild, because let me tell you, it was amazing. If anyone can get a chance to go see them while they are on tour, go!

Good morning. It is turning colder all day today, possibly snow on Sat.

I’m glad this is the last day I have to feed Debbie’s horses:) That worked out well.

So what are everyone’s plans for Thanksgiving. Mack and I will be by ourselves this year...the kids go to their in-law’s. We are going to go rent some movies today, for tomorrow, that will be about it.

Becky

I have one of their CDs. They’re very good.

Well I hate to hear about your furniture. What happened to it? Did it get wet or all beat up or what? I’d take them to court if they don’t come through with a reimbursement for either repair or replacement.

That’s exciting to hear about the new horse. Is he gaited like Waylon?

I was wondering about Lori’s transplant too. I hope she’s doing well and I’ll keep praying for her.

SO you aren’t making a big dinner then? We’ll be going up to the beach house, the thing I’m thankful for is the weather is supposed to be nice and clear and sunny, if cool. Last year it was stormy and the news was about everyone’s power going out with the turkey half done.

Wow, the concert sounds awesome! I love them but I had never of them until that video came out on the web a couple of years ago where that guy was using their music synced up to the light show on his house. Now that was cool!

...So what are everyone’s plans for Thanksgiving...

Lee and I will go pick up my Mother from the assisted living and take her to her house where we'll meet my sister and her husband and have lunch. We'll be bringing the food with us instead of cooking it there, just so we don't have the clean-up to worry about. We'll stay there until late afternoon, then we'll take Mother back and go on to Lee's mother's house and eat some more. I'll be in a calorie-induced coma by bedtime!

Half done turkey would NOT be fun!

Lee gets a free one every year from where he works. It’s uncooked of course and seeing as how I don’t have an ounce of domestication in my body, I took it to one of the local BBQ places and had it smoked. I picked it up yesterday evening after work and BOY did it smell good! I had planned on carving it up and just taking slices to the various places we’ll be eating anyways, so I kinda “sampled” one of the wings for supper last night. Mmmmmmmmm! Tasty! And no one will be the wiser either. ;o)

Hey - that’s a good deal... you just drop off a turkey and pick it up cooked?

Yep. It was kinda funny the first year we dropped one off there because Lee went in and asked the guy how much to smoke a turkey if we brought the turkey and the guy said “11 bucks, but it’s only $20 if we provide the bird, so that’s really a better deal.” So Lee had to tell him that yes, that was a good deal, but since we had a free turkey already that he’d be hard pressed to beat that.

We got free turkeys at one place I used to work too. I remember one year we had turkeys up to our ears because we got one from work, which I didn’t know was coming, had already bought one, and then when we went to the grocery store to buy all the fixings, they gave us another turkey free for a hundred dollar purchase. ;~)

ACK! We’d have donated a couple of the extras but didn’t really know how. We ate a lot of turkey in the coming week. :~)

Morning. We are having dinner here. Usually the kids go to the other side for a big shindig, but not this year. I am going to fix a ham. One of Ben’s friends is coming over, to go hunting.

LOL! You probably didn't wanna see another bite of turkey for a LONG time after that! I know I get pretty tired of it pretty quick after having just one

Ham is my favorite! We usually get a free spiral-cut sugar-cured ham for Christmas. They are YUMMY!

Oh noes, what happened to your furniture? That is a real shame. If you can, take some pictures of the new horse and house! I am so glad you like it there. Are you going to find a job or just take it easy?
