This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL!! Sounds like an episode of Jackass. Some people are just TOO stupid!
How old is the niece?
Under 16 but over 10...
Becky
Hmm.... well, I hope you can help. It’s a little scary that she got knocked out and then doesn’t remember it...
Did she go to the hospital?
{sigh}Green on green makes Black and Blue! Good luck with him, but be careful coz he really ain't your problem. If they aren't willing to shell out the money for a trainer then they just need to realize that they made a mistake, sell him and start over with a dead-broke teenaged horse.
Well, it wasn’t the niece that got thrown, but my friend.
No she did not go to the hospital.
Becky
Yeah - I had that straight... it’s just a lot of shes ;~)
Sounds like a concussion to me. She needs to be really careful now and make sure that she doesn’t take another bump on the head for a long time because studies have shown that the after effects of a concussion can last as long as a year and another bump on the head before the original injury has healed can be much more severe. I got all this from a news story they ran the other day on the dangers of concussions and brain injury as it relates to sports.
Oh, OK:)
Becky
I wouldn't be concerned *too* much about the lingering black stuff in the whiteline but it could spread again if not treated under the shoe. Hopefully he treated it with something before the shoe went on? I usually pick it out with a horseshoe nail or something like that, and pack the narrow crevice with a wad of absorbant material and then saturate the packing with thrush buster before I nail on the shoe.Actually the foot shape and ratios are much better than the farrier thinks.....if he mapped the foot using his "sharpie marker" he would see that.
The breakover is great, the bars are straight, the biggest problem is still that he is not getting the heels trimmed back quite enough. Since I dont have photobucket, I can't attach the pic all marked up here so send me an email to my regular ady at ____________, and I'll reply with the pic attached. And the way he is moving, heck I wouldn't be concerned at all really, he looks terrific. I would just like to see those heels a LITTLE bit more back next time . And that would also get him into a larger shoe. Patty
I haven't gotten her markup yet... I'll post it when I get it though!
Oh, I got the Bixby Bulletin you sent me with the story of our visit in it. Lee really enjoyed reading it. My mother will enjoy it too. Thanks!
Oh - I’ll look for ours :~)
I’ll be sure to tell her this.
I’ve already told her I’m not getting on the horse...ever:)....she says it will be a long time before she or anyone else does too. So there’s that.
Charlie got thrown off a horse one time and it knocked him out. He was at a roping with friends. From the story I get, he was out of it the rest of the night. His “friends” propped him up in a chair, finished the roping then took him home and told Kristy to wake him every hour.
Charlie thought he was fine, till about 3 days later he discovered himself sitting at a stop light, cars blowing horns at him, because he’d sat right thru the light but didn’t remember it. He took himself to the ER. He had a concussion, slight brain swelling. He was given some meds and sent home. Took a few more days for him to start feeling like he wasn’t in a fog.
Of course I wasn’t told any of this till it was all resolved.
Becky
Well then that all sounds pretty good.
Becky
Hey that’s great! I didn’t like his heel placement either. Once he starts getting those heels back, the toe should take care of itself. And I hadn’t heard of anybody putting packing in the white line. That’s a good tip to know. I’m really looking forward to her markup photo.
I was wondering this morning if anyone had gotten them . Figured you’d let me know:)
I’ve shown it to several people and had some people in town tell me they saw it:) In fact the lady that came to look at Harley, that’s how the conversation about him got started. I saw her in the PO, and she was there and told me she’s seen it:). She thought that was the coolest thing:)
Becky
Oh, and I meant to tell you I sent you two incase Bladerider wanted one. I wasn’t sure she was ever able to get on and see the posts asking for addresses.
Becky
I told her that I treated it with HP before putting the shoe back on... and that I’d get some packing (what kind?) material and ThrushBuster for next time.
Oh yikes. I bet that didn't go over well! I'm glad he finally got himself to the ER.
