FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, I have some sad news. Inge_Cav passed away. It was sometime late last week and I just now found out about it. I sure do hate it. We hadn’t spoken in a while because he had gone back to work, so I thought everything was fine with him, but he must've had a reoccurance of his heart trouble. He was a fine friend and a true gentleman, and I do mean Gentle Man. He had a ready grin and an infectious laugh and I don’t believe I ever heard him say a cross word to anybody. He loved his horses, his cats and his family and he will be missed. :-{

Well, I’ll let you know how the alcohol/vinegar stuff works.

English/jumping seems odd for Jesse considering who his mother is:) Nothing wrong with it just seems odd that is what he would want to do. From what I remember from the pictures of Tell he looks like he could do it. Does Tiff have any experience in English/jumping?

Oh dear. I am so sorry. I might have thought to worry too, since he hasn’t been on much in a long time.

I always enjoyed talking with him, he and I became good friends for awhile. He liked to send me pictures of his drafts, his cows, and his cats, and the old broken down trucks he’d buy that I called “planters”. And he always spoke very fondly of you, Lurker Beth. :~)

Are all his critters taken care of? Did he still have the horses?

I think he’d be well suited as a low level jumper.

No, Tiff doesn’t have any experience with it, and she doesn’t really understand it. She wishes he wanted to do roping or rodeo or something more manly. She fears it might mean he’s gay. I laughed and said she probably hasn’t been to many rodeos if she thinks that’s where the straight men are. ;~) And no, I told her it doesn’t mean he’s gay.

She wanted me to give him lessons. I said maybe. Giving lessons to kids, jumping - that may be more than I should take on. I said he should go to a real jumper barn.

That's great about Harley's problem being minor. I figured he's just gimped himself a little bit when he fell coz it looked like he really busted his @$$ by the length of those skid marks you posted the other day. Hopefully the lady you know will take him. I'm always more comfortable when someone I know takes one of my horses.

As far as the strike goes, the Steelworkers signed a tentative contract last night, pending member ratification, so they should have come back in to work this morning, but the other unions involved, the ones who's jobs were outsourced, are still picketing, and from what I hear it got kinda nasty out there this morning when some of the Steelworkers tried to come through the picket line so most of them called in and said they weren't coming. So the next step I guess is for the company go get a court injunction to force the Steelworkers to come on in to work and to make the other picketers move to the other side of the street where they can't block the plant gate. Anyways, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. Since I've not been told any different, I guess I'll go back down in the plant tomorrow morning and drive a fork lift again. It's really kinda fun. Moving 30,000 pound coils of aluminum around with a big forklift really isn't all that different than moving around rolls of hay with a tractor and frontend loader. You've just got to be a little bit more careful not to hit anything with them though.

Yeah, a while back he had found homes for all the horses and most of the cats. I think the rest had become barn cats and his brothers still have the farm so I’m sure they’re taking care of them. I’ll be forever in his debt for giving me Bear. He’s a special cat.

Aw... well I’m sorry and will miss him.

He wanted to ship me one of those drafts... a mare. I told him I didn’t have anything big enough for her. :~)

I was reading back through the posts, and saw the picture of Barkley. Holy crud that is one seriously bloated dog. He looks a snake that swallowed a small animal. :-)
