This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Can I grit my teeth as I say it.

If you have to... it’ll get easier as you go.
Maybe flex your head around each direction to help you soften and give to the pressure ;~)
LOL:)...I think the 6. beer will work better:).
Becky
Well tell her to get off and post some pics:’)
Well I’ve got an appaloosa stallion that goes months between trims - no shoes. The farrier keeps saying, you’re wasting your money if you trim him this time. (He ran endurance barefoot too)
I’ll wait till she tells you. You must have missed it. :~)
Say... now there’s an idea ;~)
Would he likely throw color on such a breeding? Would the offspring be registerable?
I am not sure it matters all that much if the baby is registerable if the plan would be to keep it, but it helps if we ever did want to sell. I’d sortof thought the only way to get a registerable baby of any appeal would be to breed her to an Arab.
Yup, I’d kill for that horse. She’s just what I like.
Is Bay still doing ok with that shoeing job? I wonder what the shoers on the horseshoes site would say...
I’m sitting here waiting on my round bale man. He’s bringing me 12 rolls. I didn’t want that many all at once but he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Thought about posting it for critique... Maybe if I think my life needs more input ;~)
Well, he looks like he’s moving just fine. I am curious about what those farrier jerks would say.
Tiff update...
She’s been riding Tell on trail and thinks he’s just great.
She needs to find a home for one of the young mares, Cassie... because she had a guest paint stallion who was the friend of a friend stay at her house two days and she bred him to the “other” Kat, the sorrel/flaxen mare that you saw at her house.
She tried to breed him to Mia but Mia wouldn’t have any part of him. Good for Mia ;~)
~sigh~ Why do I hold back and wait until I’m totally prepared before breeding horses?
I’ll let you know if I ask them and then we’ll both find out ;~)
I don't know, why do you:)?
Just got back from the vet. Harley has a small shin splint, probably caused from kicking himself when he slipped and fell the other day. This is nothing at all serious. He needs 10 days off, keep him in his run, and should be fine. She said to speed the healing along, to spray his leg twice a day with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and alcohol. According to her that is a great anti-inflamatory, and mild pain killer. Said it would help any soreness that a horse has like after a tough ride. So that is a relief. Funny thing when she lunged him a bit to see the limp he didn't. He was fine again, she said that was another good sign that it was nothing serious. She said yesterday when I rode him he was probably fine, but that was enough to irratate it so he was sore when they were here. Another good thing is the people who looked at him use this vet too, and she was going to call them anyway about another horse, so she was going to tell them about Harley, that it wasn't nothing serious, and that he was probably fine when I rode him yesterday....the whole story. So maybe they really will still be potential buyers.
Bay looks good in the video to me...so I wouldn't worry.
That's nice that Tell is working for Tiff. Do you think he will replace Mia? She's going to end up with a lot of horses breeding them.
Becky
About Bay’s latest trim, yep, I think he set the shoe back too far. Sometimes more is NOT better. I don’t think it’ll hurt him or anything, but I really don’t think it’s going to help either. From what I remember, there should be about 1/4” between the tip of the frog and the inside rim of the shoe at the toe, unless the horse has REALLY small feet. And I think the heels are too short too. This shoe must be fairly small if he moved the toe back that far and the heels are still too short. :-\ But the 7 week shoeing cycle will probably do him more good than anything. Personally, I go with 6 and sometimes that’s too long. But I think you might be right about his foot being what it is. After all, he’s had what, 26 years, to grow it that way so it’s not likely to change very quickly, if at all. But he’s definitely better off being maintained this way than not and I think his way of going proves that out, even if he never actually achieves the “optimal” foot.
I'm not really worried about Bay...
I don't know, why do you:)?
Because I want to do this really carefully and wisely... I want to do it ~right~.
That's nice that Tell is working for Tiff. Do you think he will replace Mia? She's going to end up with a lot of horses breeding them.
I think what will end up happening is she's preparing him for Jesse. He's a better boy's horse than Mia... Mia's very feminine. I think if Jesse still wants to take English lessons and jumping... Tell might be her guy.
Hey Frog:)...we’re missing you.
I sure thought I’d be calling you last night telling you I’d sold Harley. But I think I still have a good chance too, once he’s well. And if this sell falls thru, the vet said she knows a lady who would be interested in him too...so it just might happen:) I’ll keep you updated.
So any signs yet the strike is going to be resolved anytime soon?
Becky
Thanks Frog. I appreciate it.
I don’t have any complaints, I guess, as long as he doesn’t lame my horse. He seems comfortable on them but I almost worried he was taking all the wall off the front of his foot!
