Well, I’m back from town... ;~)
OK:), just sitting here waiting on time to pass.
I rode him a bit in the arena, and he did fine, even with the wind blowing a lot.
Becky
So have you taken those pictures of Bay’s feet yet? I’m interested in seeing what the farrier did this time.
Becky
No... just had some lunch and was thinking about doing that next. :~)
Here it is with the shoe on.
I wish I was skilled enough to overlay one photo on the other in Photoshop. It looked like he was setting the shoe in the middle of Bay's foot, you can see it's right at the tip of the frog, and he rasped off a whole lot of toe.
Bay seems perfectly fine on it! I was just rather taken aback. He's been making I thought pretty subtle adjustments in his trims, and complaining that he wasn't making any progress, and I think he just decided to ~move~ it along.
It just got me wondering. He keeps trying to correct Bay's shape, and Bay's foot keeps reverting back to what it was before by the next trim. I wondered if maybe his foot just is the shape it wants to be, and maybe that's not a NB shape.
Cyn's foot, it seems to me, is a naturally NB shape. Is that just better genetics, or could Bay's be that shape if his trims were really correct?
Her foot (before trim, and due... I took this one last week)
My horse really has some remarkable feet. We should breed her someday and see if we can pass along that particular trait.
I’ve heard of a lot worse reasons for breeding a horse :~)
Her feet are great. She’s great. Question is what to breed her to? What do we want?
Well, the people came, they liked him, but...:(, he’s still a bit off at the trot. His head was bobbing again at the trot...I didn’t notice it this afternoon when I rode him, but I saw it immediately when the girl rode him.
They said they were still interested and want to come back when he is sound. Seemed interested in even buying the saddle...
It’s just so hard to know which leg he is sore in, and how to treat it. I think I’ll call the vet tomorrow and see if she can get him in, so I can get this cleared up as fast as I can. I’m going to make sure he is sound for at least a week before I call them back.
Becky
Oooh bummer about him being off. Did they seem alarmed or did they believe it might just be from that wipeout last week?
That does look pretty close to the tip of the frog. I think NB shoes are moved back some, and not saying that is too far, but from the pictures I remember on the NB NB web page there is more space then what it appears Bay has.
From the side view, it doesn’t look like it comes out enough for heel support either.
I do not at all mean to pick, just my observations.
Becky
No they didn’t appear alarmed at all. They thought it was just maybe a bruise from all the rock around here:).
I swear he’s a great horse, but it’s just been one thing after another with him. I’m really frustrated with him. I think it will be a relief to see him go.
Becky
Yeah - I thought the same thing when I saw the picture... not real happy with that profile picture because it doesn’t show where the front of the shoe is either. Couldn’t tell that he was in a hole when I took it.
Well it might be just a bruise from all the rock around there! There is a lot of rock around there!
Well good. I hope whatever’s right happens. I think it will be fun to watch you go through this ~change~.
Well, at this point, I’m ready to chuck the whole horse business...I’m sick of this.
Becky
Becky
Thanks for those pics... Bay’s foot doesn’t look exactly like that... but close, I guess.
And buck up! Horses are fun!
Becky
Hmmmmmmm....not sure I'd agree right now.
The only thing I see different is the in the heels. Bay's shoes seem to curve in rather then come straight out to support the heel...if that is wrong, I'd have no idea.
Becky
I’d agree on your observation and also don’t know if it’s wrong.
We need Frog... or I’d have to post it on the horse forum and risk a lot of chatter. ;~)
Say it along with me.... “Horses are fun”.
