They are amazing. Janelle showed in costume in open shows with her mare, now 4yrs old. Maggie is pretty hot but handled hides and feathers without a flinch. You wonder how that can be when they then jump out of their skin at a plastic bag on the ground.
I always thought the same of the Arabs who gallop in those gawdy costumes ;~)
Have a good ride... we’re getting ready to go to Petsmart.
"I'm a baaaaaaaad beagle. A very bad beagle."
We found one that would fit under the desk, so that's cool. He doesn't seem to mind it... Thinks we bought him a new dog bed. "This is pretty comfy!"
"OK... but what's with the latched door thing?"
Well kick boxing got cancelled. They talked me in to going to a spinners class instead. OHHHHHHHH.
LOL I had a lab/german shepherd that could if allowed eat a 40 pound bag of dog food in one sitting. Finally had him checked. It turns out he had thyroid problems. After putting him on pills; he was just fine and lost the weight he needed to.
You might have him checked.
Love the decorations and that sure is one beautiful horse.
You up?
Well, thank you!
I’ve seen you on other threads and I don’t remember ever disagreeing with you. Do you have horses?
He does have Thyroid issues and he’s on Thyroid meds! He just still gorges if given a chance... are you saying your dog stopped?
He looks very comfortable:)
Are you putting him in there at night? If so, how did he do? any howling?
The ride was nice. We zigzagged the creek. Since it’s the weekend, and hunting season I didn’t want to go around the areas where hunters might be. I also schooled him a bit in the arena and he did pretty good.

We’re only going to lock him in there when we leave... and for meals. He doesn’t break into the food or make other mischief when we’re here... He sleeps on a dog bed next to ecurbh.
Hunters don’t go down to the creeks? I’d think it’d be a good spot to sit and wait for deer to come take a drink...
Glad you had a good ride. Our farrier comes today.
Kids went to a horse sale in Michigan yesterday. They came home with a new horse and took her to a show today. I will take some pictures and post later.
I don’t “think” hunters go around the creek area where I ride. I’ve not seen any evidence of them being there, and besides it’s really pretty close to houses, (not that that would stop some).
I don’t know, for some reason I just don’t feel as vulnerable in that area. Besides right now it’s bow and black powder gun season, not rifle. Rifle season is the only time I really worry about getting shot.

What kind of horse?

I have a question to put to the floor!
The pictures of the costume class make this marginally relevant . . . .
I am joining the Single Action Shooting Society, which is actually a lot of fun. The idea is friendly competition in a course of practical shooting -- using pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Trick is, they have to be items that were current in the Old West in the period from the Civil War to 1899. In other words, single action revolvers, coach or old pump shotguns, and lever action rifles ONLY. This will necessitate of course a trip to the gun store . . .
Here's the question: in order to participate, I have to adopt a "persona" from the period, and I have to wear period dress. I have rousted around and come up with a couple of ideas.
A young lady named F. M. Miller was the only female deputy U.S. Marshal to serve in Indian Territory (there were two other female employees of the Marshal Service, but they were primarily office clerks and only filled in on escort duties as needed). Not much is known about her, other than that she wore a sombrero, and carried a Colt revolver and a Winchester carbine. Apparently she participated in quite a number of arrests and was pretty and brave. Haven't found a photo, but she was a brunette (as am I).
A Crow woman named The Other Magpie was a scout for General Crook and fought at the Battle of the Rosebud. She figures in Pretty Shield's account of the battle as told to journalist Frank Strickland. I read about her years ago in an American Heritage article, "Deadlier Than the Male." She fought bravely in the battle, saving the life of a wounded fellow tribesman and counting coup on a Lakota warrior. She was said to have taken up arms to avenge her brother, who was killed by the Lakota. Other than Pretty Shield's story, not much is known about her. There is a photo that may be of her, taken with another Crow, Osh-Tisch, who was a man who generally dressed as a woman and also fought in the battle. Naturally the feminist 'scholars' have had a field day with that -- but I think 'gender identity issues' can be safely ignored.
My third choice is Phoebe Ann Mozee . . . which was Annie Oakley's real name. But I'm a little shy about taking that name, simply 'cause I'm nowhere near that good a shot!
What you guys think? Some interesting costuming issues are going to come up. I'll research thoroughly and make sure I have everything historically accurate, I'm not worried about difficulty in sewing because I've done theatrical costumes for years.
Funny thing - we were just talking yesterday up at the gun club about how it just isn’t safe to ride along power line cuts this time of year . . . . some fool slob hunters will shoot at anything that moves! “Identify your target FIRST” is a maxim that some folks ignore.
I'm amazed that the horse is behaving with all that stuff loaded onto him. You can hardly see him under there.
Sometimes less is more.
Lady Gidiva?
Going to have to be very pretty and have very long hair to carry that one off though!
Yeah, but could she shoot? :')
