FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

That sure is odd :) All of my animals might get into the food - the min pins will for sure - if I leave the pantry open but they don’t gorge themselves. I imagine the horses would if they could get into the feed room, but the dogs and cat seem pretty reasonable about it. Well, I say that but who knows with the labs :)

Before Barkley, we could leave the lid off the bin and Gidget and Homer wouldn’t eat out of it. The cat food, we used to have just in the open bag.

Can’t do that now! He’ll pull stuff off the counter, he’ll get into the garbage... he’s a food hoarder.

That is one bloated dog. He’ll feel a whole lot better after that wicked dump he’s gonna take.

Thanks! I still wish she was a little bigger, she’s not much taller than George the Pony.

Absolutely. Better keep an eye on him, once his bowels start moving he might not be able to hold it in time to get outside.

She's only just two yrs old though isn't she? She'll grow a good bit more I think, just give her time. I've reached it point in age where I think shorter is better :) but I'm always amazed by how much growing happens after two, just slower.

She doesn't look too small in the video at all.

Maybe a muzzle? He’d probably figure out how to get it off on second thought. He has a mission :)

Yeah, she’s 2. She’ll be 3 in May. One thing about her being shorter, I can lift my western saddle up there when it’s time. I have to struggle to get it up on Winnie, she’s 15.2 or so. Mina might be 14.2 if she stands on her tippy toes.

I don’t think hers is too far off actually...

The real thing is a lot showier than I thought it was going to be!

Personally, I’m with Duchess...I’d like a shorter horse:). Harley is 15.2 I can get on him from level ground, but...I usually look for something to stand on that puts me higher.

I always thought Rusty was the perfect size...about 14.3. Your mare will probably grow quit a bit more, IMO. It’s been my experience that they do grow, even height wise, a lot between 3 and 4 years old. From about 4 they usually just put on body mass then. I think it’s said that QH’s grow till they are 6.

:) I guess part of my gripe is the collar - that was Crow, not Nez Perce, and huge hide and fishing basket. And the fact that everything is neatly beaded with seed beads, no bells, no shells, nothing looks hand crafted, it looks like it came from China factories.

I'm not sure that the judges know what to look for though either. Several years ago, a bonifide indian rode in the Heritage class with items all hand crafted replicas and lost - that caused a real row and changes in the rules I believe.

I'm impressed with just the thought that a horse wouldn't be freaking out with all that stuff hanging off him...let alone if it's authentic or not:).

Well, Harley is saddled. He appears to be over the slight gimpyness he had the other day....so I’m off for awhile.

Everyone have a nice day.
