FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Yeah - they’re safe to ride, they recommend it for nervous racers before a race. But I wouldn’t count on it to work ~that~ well.

Hi y’all! I am back but I’m up to my armpits in alligators here at work so my catching up has been a bit slow. I have been able to see a few of the videos that you posted of Rock and sure enjoyed them. He’s a looker that’s for sure! I haven’t had time to upload any of my vacation pictures yet, but when I do I’ll post a few of the better ones. Since my husband insisted on taking a picture of every rock in the whole 4 Corners area it might take a while if I uploaded them all! ;o)

Welcome back:), looking forward to your pictures:)

Thanks about Rocky:)...I’ve only rode him once since the videos, I’m hoping to ride him this evening. Right now I have Harley saddled, but am waiting for some aspirin to kick in, I have a headache, thinks it’s from the weather and allergies and such.

Hey, Frog, I’m almost embarrassed to ask you this because I’m sure it’s something I should know, but I don’t:) What kind of gaited horses are your horses:)?

I’ve been telling people about you all coming and bringing your gaited horses, and they all ask what kind, and I just don’t have a clue other then their gaited:)

Well, no farrier today... he’s got a P3 (coffin bone) fracture emergency that’s probably going to be all he can do today, so he put me off till Saturday.

Ah well. I got Bay treated anyway, and we’ll wait.

Oh, that’s too bad, but it’s nice to know the guy will be available for emergencies. You never know when it could be you.

Yeah - at least I’d know he’s done ~that~ one at least once before! Good experience for him. There will be a vet working there too taking xrays to place the orthotic correctly and everything.

Would be interesting to be there and see the work. I use to love going to my old vet and sit and watch him work on horse’s.

Well, I walked out to go ride a bit, and just don’t feel like going...I think I’ve been sitting here too much the last few days, but there’s been some interesting discussions on the HF. Probably if I just went I’d feel better, but just don’t feel all that great now...

This post is to try to motivate me:)

Should I crack the whip or tell you it’s OK if you don’t want to go? :~)

I just came in from spreading horse poo in the paddock and letting the tree cutters back in for another load, and it’s HOT. I swear it’s hot, but my current weather bar thing says it’s only 65. I think it’s behind and it’s at least 75.

I know you’ll laugh, but I am still in long pants and I was out in the sun pitching crap, so :P

Lol...whining....I don't know...you decide:)

Well, pitching horse poo in 65 degree weather would be hot work. Makes me hot and tired just thinking about it today.

I guess you could say that mine are Racking Horses since that’s how they’re registered (the ones that are). But most Racking Horses really come from Walking bloodlines that just weren’t good enough at the head-nodding walk and racked instead. Racking is frowned upon in the Walking Horse circles. Plus the Walking Horse books are closed, so the only way to get one is to have two registered parents. But the Racking Horse books are still open to comissioning. So as long as the horse can demonstrate a smooth 4-beat gait to the comissioner, they can be registered as a Racking Horse. I really don’t care how they’re registered since I don’t show, but some people do. All I want is a nice-looking smooth-going trail horse and I’ll be happy.

Oh, well, you know I don’t think I’ve ever heard that. For some reason i was thinking they were Tennessee Walkers, maybe because you have one named Tennesssee, right?

I did manage to get my self out to ride:), and I had a brainstrom. I checked out a trail I haven’t rode in a long time, because I thought it would be the perfect trail for me to take 2J down when she comes rides with Hair and I. We call it the Volkswagon trail because there is an old rusted out body of a VW sitting out there:) The loop took just a bit over an hour from my house to back. But that can be extended to longer if everyone is up to it, we can decided as we go:)

I can't remember if you got to watch this before you had the DSL. There's lots of times there was video I know you missed. I was just reminded of this one and I just marvel at this horse and rider. Not a fan of of the sport really, but impressive nonetheless.
