FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Uh . . . YEAH. Friends of ours just got a new Yellow Lab puppy . . . they lost their 16 year old Yellow Lab Dixie last year. Still have a 12 year old Black Lab and a 7 year old Black Lab (Shelley's good friend Tori).

We went up to pay a formal call on the new boy, and I just cuddled and cuddled him practically the whole time we were there. WHAT a cutie . . . beautiful eyes just starting to turn from blue, black shoe-polish nose . . . awwwwww! They had to pry him out of my arms.

His name is Rebel's Carolina Moonshine, he's out of some big time UKC hunt test dogs (father is a Grand Hunting Retriever Champion).

. . . just worn out from all that cuddling . . .

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but this one is the funniest one that I've seen. The cat is adorable.

Good Morning.

Farrier is coming today. PJ will have his shoes pulled, as that was Alison's last show yesterday. I will still keep shoes on Jody. We are planing on going riding next weekend.

Beaker, that is great! On my gaming forum, there is a whole thread of just LOLcats. So funny!

Probably "put your CAT FOOD in the bowl for Jesus!"

One of my faves:

Can't find the one of the cat and dog side by side looking pitiful "We forgetted where we put baby."

My husband bought me a new scanner and scanned a couple of old pics for me. This is me and my first horse, I'm about 17 years old. I got her when I was 12.

Oh, I can find a million things wrong in those pics, it’s embarrassing, but I thought I would show them anyway.

One of the worst things is I taught her to rear up. She went over backwards on me once and I ended up in the hospital. That’s one trick I won’t be teaching anymore.

Yikes. Well, I taught my stallion to rear too, but he never feel over with me. The things kids do.

I wasn’t really meaning to point out something wrong... just wondered if it was a problem 5 seconds after the picture was taken ;~).

LOL, sure looks like it ought to be a problem, huh? The mare had her idiosyncracies but in the 25 plus years I owned her, she never bucked and never took a lame step. She spooked at EVERYTHING, was very high strung and threw her head a lot. In hindsight, I could have fixed some of her issues but back then I didn’t have the know how and didn’t have anyone to ask for help. It doesn’t look like it in the pictures but she was always thin. Instead of bumping up her hay intake I fed her several pounds of high powered Omolene. Probably contributed to her being so high strung.

It may have had quite a bit to do with it! ;~)

It’s hard to keep weight on an active kid’s horse. I rode mine all over town. ALL day... At a canter if I could.

Oh wow! Hard to know what to say about a picture like that:) it’s pretty, and awesome looking, but very dangerous, as I gather you found out.

Nice looking mare, tho.

It’s going to be hot here... I had two guys here that are going to be cutting up all the downed trees around here for firewood... they sell it are happy to get it for free. They’ve already taken a load and will be back for more tomorrow.

And my farrier is coming tomorrow to put Bay’s shoes back on. :~)

You know I was wondering yesterday when you said you had someone comeing to cut up your tree if I should see if anyone wants all the dead trees laying around here. I’ve been waiting on the bob cat so I could move them to a big pile and just burn them.

Oh, new shoes on Bay. Are you planning on riding then soon?

Yeah - if the weather holds, I’ll give Bay a few days to get used to his feet again, and go this weekend. :~)

It might be worth an ad on Craigslist, say ‘free U Cut firewood’. I had about 10 people within an hour respond that they wanted it.

The problem for me is getting the people here:) Usually I have to just go meet people in town and have them follow me here.

Anyway, I’m sure hoping to get some riding in the week, even this evening if the rain clears. Oct is coming fast:)

Is that what you’re planning for the saddle moot, to go meet folk in town?

October is coming fast. And I was hoping to be thinner by then too. Dang. :~\
