This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hi Beaker. I was just thinking about you last night. Hope all is well in your world.
I finally got finished with my house plans and got a set of blueprints so I hope to be starting it this Spring too. That'll probably further cut back on my riding time, but it'll be worth it to finally have my own place and barn and all the horses under one roof.
Beaker, how's it going with TheFellow and the job?
Duchess, how's Bob and all your horses? You getting a lot of snow this winter? We haven't gotten ANY and I've been disappointed.
Becky, how's your new apartment coming? I'll bet there's quite a bit more done by now. You need to post us some more pictures.
Hair, I know you stay busy over at Baywind. I haven't been on there in quite a while so I don't know what's going on with you and your bunch either. I hope you and Bruce and all the horses, cats and dogs are staying warm and dry.
Here's a few pics of some of our recent rides...
Me and Bob...
Me and Grace...
Thought this one was really funny...
Me and Whirl. Not the best picture of her, but she's really coming along. She's barefoot in the rear with boots on the front or I wouldn't have had her up there for fear of slipping. I'd never done anything like that before but had seen it done, so I just asked her to get up there on the spur of the moment, jut to see if she'd do it, and she went like she'd she'd done it all her life. It kinda shocked me! She's absolutely fearless and has more heart than just about any of the others. She'll give you everything she has and then some, so you have to watch out for her or she'll over-do. And to think that the trainer said she didn't have any guts! Harumph!
I'll try to do a little better about checking in over here. I miss y'all!
It’s great to hear from you. In the second picture, is that ice???? And the next to the last looks like an old house foundation or an old wall. Whirl looks great too.
Can you describe your house plans? I’m glad you are going to be able to start on it.
Bob is okay, has a compression fracture of the spine but fortunately my son and my niece and nephew are making sure stalls are cleaned, feed moved, etc. so that helps a lot.
Still trying to sell horses :) down to eight but hoping to find homes for six of them. Belle, the chocolate lab tested mild hip dysplasia so we had her spayed and gave her to my son for a pet. We took a queensland rescue that he’d gotten and Bob is working with him. So - still six dogs.
Not much snow here at all, we seem to be in a pretty severe drought. Lots of wind but the storms all hang up right before the Sierras.
Take care.
Yeah, that’s ice in that picture. It had warmed up a good bit by the time the picture was made. That was the week that it got down into the teens. I’ll bet it really looked cool when it was completely frozen. The stone work in the other picture is an old chimney, all that’s left of an old house place out in the Forest.
I hate to hear about Bob’s fracture but I’m glad to hear that he’s doing ok and is letting the kids help him with the horses. Hopefully you’ll find good homes for the rest of the horses. It’s hard to do these days. People just don’t have any extra money right now.
Our drought seems to have broken. We’ve gotten a decent amount of rain throughout the Fall and Winter. It was actually raining pretty hard as I wrote this, and I was going to say that I was surprised that my satellite internet still had a connection, but wouldn’t you know it, right about that time it didn’t anymore, so I had to wait to send this until after I got home from work, then it went out again. So here I am on a Saturday morning trying one more time. I Jinxed myself I guess. ;o)
It was about 70* here on Thursday but they’re giving a pretty good chance of some snow on Sunday. You just never know about the weather around here. I kinda hope we get some snow. It’s been several years since we’ve had any and if we don’t get some by the end of February we’re pretty much done with weather cold enough to have any after that.
Well, I’m fixing to go to town and have a little breakfast with my husband and FIL. It’s not fit weather to do anything outside.
Great pictures, but it looks awfully cold:)
We have some drywall up down here now, but we’ve kind of moved back to working on the house. Last week we prepped it for painting, and tomorrow we are going to paint it...we’ve been waiting on the weather to cooperate.
Today I’m taking a friend of mines daughter ot OK City to take her baby to a doc. He was born with club feet and has to have new casts put on every week. No one wants her going by herself, but everyone works, so I’m going to run her up there today. I think it will be interesting to watch them cast this baby’s legs. This will be his third set. He will have 5 sets altogether, then braces for 3 years.
When I get back tonight, I have to go to the bowling alley to pick up my new ball!!!:), try it out, then the kids and I bowl on a league tonight. So today is going to be very busy.
Good to hear from you and see your pictures.
Good to hear from you :) I think the salt mines are where they found mummies - really pretty cool. I loved touring the castles when I was in Europe, have fun.
Well, I’m a day late reading your post, so I’m assuming you’ve got all the painting done by now. The trip to OK City sounds interesting. Poor little guy. I’ll bet he’s not a happy camper in those casts and doesn’t understand why they’re doing this to him.
We’ve had some gorgeous weather the last couple of days and I hope you have too. Temps near the 70’s and sunny really give me cabin fever when I’m sitting in an office all day. We did have a pretty good snow last Sunday though and some of us went riding in it. I’ve got pics but I’ll have to post them later. Gotta get ready to head to work now.
Glad to hear that the job is holding out. They’re good to have, even if they suck. Hope TheFellow gets one soon too. The trip to Poland sounds great. I’ll bet it’ll be interesting. Meeting TheFutureInLaws should be fun too. I’m sure y’all will get along just fine. The Castle trip sounds great. What I wouldn’t give to see one of those! You’ve GOT to post some pics when you get back!
On Thursday, I took a trip to Virginia and bought an 11 yo Peruvian Paso gelding. I was not going to buy another horse, but with this ecomony, I could not sell my trailer. Also, since I took that fall off of Jody last year, I had been wary of riding again.
My friend Judy had found an 19 yo gelding in Pa that we went to look at. He had not been ridden in a year and once I got on him, I was sold on the breed. Those people decided to keep the horse after their son had a fit about selling him. After that, I started searching for another one.
Here is a couple of videos of him.
Hes got a bit of a roman nose, but I guess that is common on the breed.
It’s so good to hear from you. Congratulations on the new horse :)
Update here - we have sold Slick, he is becoming a hunter and is much loved. Sonny has a cancer and will need to be on meds for the rest of his life so he’s not for sale any longer. Just three left to sell, Friday, CJ and Lace.
Bob had severe kidney stones and infection again and had an operation two weeks ago - he’s getting better and has lost ten pounds, intends to lose ten more.
Still working at the library, still hoping to retire here in the near future.
Take care.
Neat, a parrot(or Macaw). Talk much? What do you call him/her?
Hi Janis...like Becky said, what kind of dog?
He is a macaw, and named Tango. He talks a little, Hello, love ya, Tango, not much, but at least I know he is teachable:)
We have been taking the little boys to playdays and leadlining them on Dot. She is a nice horse.
I was glad to get the house sold. The buyer came 3 days after I put a for sale by owner up. We had done a lot of work on the house, painted inside and out, top to bottom, new carpet, and flooring in the kitchen and baths, new hardware in the kitchen. It looked really nice.
Sorry about Bob and and hope he recovers soon. Too bad about Sonny, will he be comfortable on meds?
How about Tuffy and the girl who bought him and how are they doing? So much to catch up on.
This is Alison's first year in 4-H and she is excited about fair. She has been doing alot of showing at the local fairgrounds and the AQHA shows. She is showing PJ for 4-H and the bay gelding Amy bought, for the QH ones.
Retiring is a very good thing!!
Thats great you could sell it, without having to pay a Realtor.
My SIL's Mother, two sisters and brother-in-law are up here from Florida for a visit. The wanted to tour Amish Country and the shops and stores while they were here. Yesterday, they went to the horse show and we had a cook out last night. Today, Alison is showing for State Fair qualification and they are there and going to leave this afternoon. I am going over in a little bit.
It is good to stay in touch. I often thought of how everyone was doing.
I am so glad you got the house sold!! What a load off your mind that must be.
That is one colorful addition to the family :) What’s his/her name? And how did your apartment turn out, is it finished yet?
Bob is getting better, just more slowly this time. I think part of it was depression and feeling sorry for himself (which I totally understand) but he’s starting to look forward to riding again. We’ve had rain here almost every day since the third week of May so that didn’t help. I’m beginning to think the poles have begun to shift - we are having the strangest weather.
Janelle and Tuffy are doing great. She has been roping off him, herding cows, and of course, playing with balls and tarps. He thinks everything is fun. He’s being bred to a couple of mares this year to see what he throws and she does plan on showing him in July at an ApHC show.
Sonny has a carcinoma on his sheath that has been removed and then burned off. He’s fine and it’s not bothering him at all, just will need daily meds to help control the return and checkups to remove it if it does come back.
Take care :)
