This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yes, in the second picture she's layered in dust.
Not a bad idea to test as many variables as possible. :~)
The good news is, even with the way you did it, Harley wasn’t a problem. You know how our place is set up, when we leave pony alone we close her out of the front pasture and usually give her the back one. That way there’s either the high paddock fence or two other fences between her and the road. I’ve never wanted her to be able to open up in the big pasture when we leave. Not the way that pony can jump :~)
Does this lady not realize that Appys change their coat colors when they are growing up about as often as the seasons? A gorgeous horse, by the way. I would love to have her. Where do you have her posted for sale?
I guess she doesn’t realize that they change. Although I still don’t think she’s changed enough in two months to look like a different horse. She’s advertised at dreamhorse and at agdirect.
Unfortunately, what you saw is not uncommon at competitions around the country. Welcome to the world of competition dressage which has diverged radically from classical dressage. There are a few who hold to the classical methods but most nowadays are in a hurry and don’t develop a seat first.
Sorry I went and read that. Makes me mad. She has no business trying to train a horse. Doesn’t have the skills needed. Probably shouldn’t even own one if she doesn’t understand the need to trim the horse on a regular basis.
Hey you can tell her for me that if she really wants to do it the “natural way” she’ll just turn him loose somewhere to fend for himself and never touch him again or feed him, etc. After all, it is the “natural way” for a horse to run free and eat grass all day.
I think it is a stupid rider issue. Horse is probably fine.
Whew, just came in from riding. When I went out and fed this morning the air just had the feel of fall to it, but it sure got hot. Harley and I did have a good work out tho.
The guy that had the hunting space out in the woods has disced it all up and planted something else. It’s just starting to come up, it doesn’t look like grass tho...maybe alfalfa. I did see lot’s of deer in that area.
I also went on a trail that reminded me of something I forgot to tell...Long time ago on this trail I noticed an old lighter laying on the trail. I never thought much about it, but the last time I rode with Julia, Harley stepped on it, and thing popped, sounded as loud as a firecracker, scared me to death, Julia too, but neither horse batted an eye. I found that amazing because it was under Harley’s foot, if the noise didn’t scare him you’d have thought he’d have felt it. I looked back and the thing was in pieces. Anyway, if you see a lighter on the trail, move it:)
Becky
LOL...I think you’re right, but I’ve said my piece to her.
Becky
Yikes... no kidding!
Oh, and one other thing about today’s ride...The big horse flies were horrible...They weren’t landing that much on Harley, I had fly sprayed him pretty good, but they were hovering around us like a cloud. The funny, but sad thing was they were terrorizing poor Grizzly....I saw him catch two, kill them and spit them back out. But they would land at the base of his tail and he would have trouble reaching them. It was rather amusing to watch him, but I felt bad too, next time if he’ll let me I’ll spray him down too. I’ve never seen them bother dogs that bad.
Becky
And spray yourself too! It’s an all spray!
It’s interesting that we don’t have many flies here at home, but we get those big ones once in awhile on trail.
We get those big flies everywhere here, but it’s interesting that they can get really really bad in certain spots. I’ve always wondered what was different in those spots vs. others.
Becky
When you were here we only seemed to get them when we stopped. ;~)
They are more on that upper trail here than the lower ones we usually stick to.
LOL...does it have a lid?
Becky
No, and she’s not afraid to get wet. She likes to bat at my tub water. :~)
Waylon is six
Uh oh.
