FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

ROFLOL:)

That Walking Gal, talks a lot of sense about horses most of the time, altho all that yoga stuff on the poor horse makes me cringe:), I just don’t get the point:)

In my ever so humble opinion,I think that she is a bit looney tunes. :-D She has some good points that she makes, and she’s probably a very good dressage rider, but it wouldn’t kill her to be a little more humble instead of starting out most of her posts by saying “You’re wrong.” There are better ways to say things.

She’s both looney toons and probably a good rider. Good entertainment either way.

Who was riding Biscuit when she tripped and fell?

Amy was, it is her horse. She just turned 4 last month. She was so worried about that car, that she tripped herself. Still a little green when it comes to trail riding. Poor Amy fell off when Biscuit jumped a small creek. The horse had already gone down into it, then made this flying leap up the bank, twisting as she went up. Totally took Amy by surprise. Good thing it was muddy and thankfully she didn't get hurt.

I am beat, washed the trailer, mowed the yard, watered plants, took my truck to the wash and unloaded the manure trailer. I was sore from riding and the best thing, is to keep moving. There was a branch sticking out, that caught me in the shin, on the trail. Nice bruise and cut on top of all that.

Well, just came back in from cleaning and treating Bay’s feet again... now he’s grazing on the lawn. Something different. He’s really tired of having to stand on that mat having his feet cleaned.

That’s a really pretty campground and riding area. The broken branches sticking out from the trees would make me nervous though.

It sure doesn’t look like Bay is uncomfortable without his shoes. Poor Cyn :)

LOL - girl after my own heart. I don’t even read much over there anymore - I end up gritting my teeth and my blood pressure goes sky high.

What is Calf Manna? The vet said Waylon probably has COPD but I’m not sure if that is the right diagnosis. Are there other reasons for a hacking cough?

I knew when I saw the pictures that those branches were dangerous. I’d have been poked full of holes. I’m sorry you got stuck by one of them.

He could have a hacking cough from dust or dusty hay, especially if he's not accustomed to it. It's hard to imagine that he suddenly got COPD - that's chronic pulmonary disease isn't it?

Calf Manna is a supplement, high protein.

It appears I might have sold CJ. Lady called Bob today, check in the mail, please deliver this Saturday to Medford, OR. It sounds like she will show in ApHC shows, that will be great, ‘cause CJ could go to the World. Going to miss the kid - I keep reminding myself - must sell horses, must sell horses. We sure can’t keep them all if I’m ever going to retire.

Good Morning.

A bit foggy this morning. The kids left early for work because of it. I have to take Lugar to the vet's today for shots and heart worm meds. There goes a hundred dollar bill.

Does he do it all the time, or only when you ride? Are you keeping him in the barn or corral at the cabin? Does he have a temp? He seems too young to have COPD. Does he have a runny nose? Did the vet come to see him? Pick up some cough medicine at the tack shop.

Jody and the pony Tubby, did quite a bit of coughing and running noses, the day after we hauled to camp.

Temps are going up here, rain predicted for the weekend. Last horse show for Alison is this Sunday. Good thing they have an indoor arena.

Link to the Tri-Co Assoc. where we camped last weekend. I think I am going to join this organazation.

That is great CJ has found a show home. How is Friday doing?

The pine branches are not what got my leg along the trail. There was another narrow spot, with a tree on one side and the branch sticking out on the other. It was hidden in some brush, so I didn't see it. I will heal. :)

Speaking of taking dogs to the vet, once again I thought Nikki was getting ready to check out on us. Sun. when I was outside a lot, she just didn’t seem right to me. Her body language, and expression. It seemed to me the whole time I was out there, she was just wondering around like she was in a fog. She normally comes out to see what we are doing, then goes back under the RV to lay down. But Sun, she was just always there around us but just wondering. When we were in the arena working the horse she was in there aimlessly moving around, I was worried she was going to get stepped on, but she doesn’t hear, and anytime I tried to get her to come to me, she would come to just out side arm length. I wondered if she had had a stroke:\ I’ve notice lately she doesn’t want to be patted. When I reach out too she always moves away.

Then this morning I hear a dog come running up behind me, and turned, expecting to see Grizzly, and here she comes, all joyous smiling expression, came up wagging, and barking...still wouldn’t let me touch her, but she was more like her old self then I’ve seen her in a long time...who knows, I think this dog is going to out live all of us:)
