The Dragonflies' Lair~Thread XXXXI
Poets of the Dragonflies' Lair | August 9, 2007 | Soaring Feather

Posted on 08/06/2007 3:44:50 AM PDT by Soaring Feather

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Beautiful poem!

A classic poet-words never erased from the pages of time.
A wondrous way to always be around
for generations to come to leaf through
old dusty tomes and uncover the thoughts
and attitudes of the author’s steps years in the past
and relevant in today’s world.

Wonderful.

The old poets are the ones I still favor.

The Owl

I saw my world again through your eyes
As I would see it again through your children's eyes.
Through your eyes it was foreign.
Plain hedge hawthorns were peculiar aliens,
A mystery of peculiar lore and doings.
Anything wild, on legs, in your eyes
Emerged at a point of exclamation
As if it had appeared to dinner guests
In the middle of the table. Common mallards
Were artefacts of some unearthliness,
Their wooings were a hypnagogic film
Unreeled by the river. Impossible
To comprehend the comfort of their feet
In the freezing water. You were a camera
Recording reflections you could not fathom.
I made my world perform its utmost for you.
You took it all in with an incredulous joy
Like a mother handed her new baby
By the midwife. Your frenzy made me giddy.
It woke up my dumb, ecstatic boyhood
Of fifteen years before. My masterpiece
Came that black night on the Grantchester road.
I sucked the throaty thin woe of a rabbit
Out of my wetted knuckle, by a copse
Where a tawny owl was enquiring.
Suddenly it swooped up, splaying its pinions
Into my face, taking me for a post.

Ted Hughes

Good morning everyone.

The day came slow, till five o' clock
by Emily Dickinson

The day came slow, till five o'clock
Then sprang before the hills
Like hindered rubies, or the light
A sudden musket spills

The purple could not keep the east,
The sunrise shook from fold,
Like breadths of topaz, packed a night,
The lady just unrolled.

The happy winds their timbrels took;
The birds, in docile rows,
Arranged themselves around their prince
(The wind is prince of those).

The orchard sparkled like a Jew, --
How mighty 't was, to stay
A guest in this stupendous place,
The parlor of the day!

GOOD NIGHT!?!

Tis the Lord’s gift of another morning,
and the sun doth crest the edge of the world.
See the flood of pale rose and perfect pearl,
and how the birds swoop in flight they hurl.
Dancing to a dawn chorus, their wings unfurled,
come, sweep away night, day’s aborning!

Lovely!

Now to explain myself, I loved the lines

A guest in this stupendous place,
The parlor of the day!

I just got fixated on those two and could not move away!

It’s a strange world I live it!!

I loved that picture when I found it.
Partly cloudy here..and mid 90 degree temps forecast!

Your sunrise made me think of the sunset I drove to see last evening over a nearby lake..I don’t have a “skyview” house..All my glass faces the ravine and woods(It’s a very soothing green view, though)...I’m going to try to time quick convenience store trips more often to sunset..It was a lovely sight over water..

I wonder is that globe thing the hummer has landed on one of those mirror balls folks have in their yards, sure looks like it. It does a wonderful job of reflecting the surrounding objects and the hummer.

We usually have gorgeous sunsets here where I live. I don’t get to see them that often as I am in the city. We are surrounded with trees, and where I am it is in a depression made during the glacier age. Gads we are old. LOL If I lived on one of the surrounding hills I would be able to see a lot more of nature’s show.

It’s nice you can drive around before dark, be around water and see the sunsets.

I have a busy afternoon coming up, grocery shopping (first time for me in a month) lab test for blood, and banking. I will be pooped by the time all this is done. ;0)

I found a tiny starfish

  I founfd a tiny starfish
in a tidepool by the sand
I found a tiny starfish
and put him in my hand

An ity-bity star-fish
no bigger than my thumb
a wet and goldern starfish
belonging to no one

I thought that I would take him
form the tidepool by the sea
and bring him home to give to you
loving gift from me

But as I held my starfish
his skin began to dry
without his special seaside home
my gift to you would die

I found a tiny starfish
in a tidepool by the sea
I hope whoever finds him next
will leave him there like me

And the gift I've saved for you
the best that I can give
I found a tiny starfish
and for you I let him live

Jessica Orrillo
