To be fair, I’m sure more than a few of the pitchers he faced were juiced up, too. It’s a pretty big problem in the MLB.
Back in those days I knew going into the season there would be Brock, Simmons, Sizemore. No team jumping. And if a batter leaned over the plate on Bob Gibson, Gibson was going to dust him. Nobody charged mound. It was just part of the game.
