Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player to reach the 500-home run plateau, belting a three- run home run in the first inning of Saturday's game against Kansas City.
Rodriguez, who turned 32 on July 27, surpassed Jimmie Foxx (32 years, 338 days) as the youngest player to reach 500 career home runs.
Rodriguez smacked the first pitch he saw from Kyle Davies over the left field wall for his 36th home run of the season and became the 22nd player in MLB history to reach the 500 home run mark.
He is the second player to notch home run No. 500 this season, joining Toronto Blue Jays slugger Frank Thomas, who reached the mark on June 28.
Good for him. If he can stay healthy, he should break the all-time HR record by 100 or more. It’s hard to be a Yankee-hater and an A-Rod fan at the same time!
The Yankees still suck.
They pay more per player than any other team and right now they’re winning pct. is .541.
Go Mariners!
Proudpapa, what are the odds that the first two posters on a an A-Rod thread would be M’s fans? I predict the Yankees will win the wild card, and face the M’s as AL West division champs. How wonderful would a repeat of the 1995 division series be?
Congrats to AROD. I’m sure they’ll show it on the FOX pregame show at 3:30.
Go Yankees!
: )
yeah!
It’s easier to be a Yankees’ fan and an A-Rod hater.
