Yes, the poor guy who some psycho psychologist decided was his test case for the idea that gender was entirely a social construct was a botched circumcision who they attempted to turn into a girl. The psycho lied, the poor guy figured out what happened and tried to live as a man without his penis rather than being what he was not and never would be...a woman.
I remember that story. They used a machine for his circumcision. Eventually he committed suicide, I think.
