The preview of “Rescue Dawn” was impressive. The Washington Times had a long article on it (Washington Weekend, July 12).
Unlike other war films, this movie shows us reality: We see the sheer joy in the eyes of the violent Vietcong captors, who enjoy torturing Americans for sport and get their jollies out of watching American soldiers suffer. That's a view we get little of in the media, today. And sadly, we got little of it then, during the Vietnam War, also. Perhaps if we did, America would have felt differently and not lost the war, protesting on the streets and on the nightly news with Walter Cronkite.
Communists like Jane Fonda openly SUPPORTED Communism. Those leading the rallies against war in Vietnam were Communists. The Yippies championed Che Guevara.
Dumb housewives got swept up in the message that "war is bad" without bothering to investigate those leading the rallies. Same as it is today.
Bale is a great actor. The first time I saw him was in “Empire of the Sun”.
