The announcement hit me like a thunderclap. Drew Carey is the new host of, The Price is Right? My mind went numb as I tried to compute this most unlikely pairing. Drew Carey. The Price is Right. Huh?
I thought of other duos that were as evenly matched. Katie Couric and the CBS Evening News. Rosie Ruiz and the Boston Marathon. Ted Kennedy and CPR. This just was not fitting in my brain.
Do not get me wrong. I like Drew Carey as an entertainer. I enjoyed his sitcom and his hilarious improv program, Whose Line is it Anyway? was truly a work of genius. But, this; this is beyond my minds comprehension. Like two Legos that had no chance of connecting, I was at a loss to make this work in my universe. I believe this way for a number of good reasons
First of all, Price is a show for women. From time to time you will see a man on camera but lets face it, the guys down at the corner bar are not exactly screaming for a channel change if there is a game on. The whole point of the telecast is to see how close to the exact dollar amount you can get without going over, right? Can you see most of us guys screaming, 124.00!!! Is this a game Michael Vick would be playing? Well, maybe he would watch it if he found out the last name of the host who just retired

I’m just thankful that isn’t “The Price is Rosie”.
Drew is a conservative guy.
I have no problem with him.
Must be a displeased liberal ... .
hey look - they floated Rosie, Whoopie, adn gawd knoww who else. this is clearly the best decision.
I think that Jeopardy champ Ken Jennigs would be a better choice myself.
these guys didn’t start out as big stars, they grew into the role, that’s what they need, not someone with baggage.
I like Drew and think it’s a good decision.
I think Drew is perfect for this. He can put out clean family orientate humor, he’s goofy, personable and can relate to all kinds of people.
The choice of Drew must have REALLY pissed off Rosie O’Donut.
Thats great.
He really thinks Bob Barker was the one who yelled “Come on down!”?
Wow, there are times when one can BS their way into sounding like they know what they are talking about.
This is not one of those times.
I think Carey is a good choice. He interacts with people very well. Besides, it beats hearing “COME ON DOWN AND TELL US WHAT YOU HATE ABOUT AMERICA.”
I heard this morning on F&F that, "according to their sources", Whoopie is headed to the view.
What would they get instead? A Bob Barker mimic who couldn’t ever measure up?
I was a big fan of Barker as a little kid back in his “Truth or Consequences” days. I was too young to know he replaced the legendary Ralph Edwards. Barker himself was a change from the previous post of the ORIGINAL Price is Right.
Art Fleming was a gentleman “Jeopardy!” host. Anybody who remembers the VERY ‘70’s Alex Trebek of High Rollers days with the lovely but untalented Ruta Lee would have thought him to be an unlikely replacement. But, hey, with the right cue cards, any good actor can sound intelligent or knowledgeable.
Let Drew define the show on his own terms. We might be surprised.
I think Carey will be great for the show although I haven’t seen it in years.
from what I heard, Rosie was a serious contender for the job, HOWEVER, she had a few demands that CBS wouldn’t do..i.e. she wanted 2 less contestants per segment to allow more time to interact with the audience and she wanted the show moved to N.Y..
That would make for great ratings!
Drew is a GREAT choice.
Those were some of my first memories. I can remember my grandmother putting me in a highchair with my breakfast in front of the tv. All they had then was one fuzzy channel and I would watch Truth or Consquences, To Tell the Truth, and Password all morning.
The price is just fine. I don’t watch game shows but I may tune in. People will be comfortable around him & he’s extremely funny. Drew is a great choice.
The show won’t be like it was, Drew is not Bob, who was not Drew. (i’m feeling ESPECIALLY profound this morning!)
But he’ll make it his own and it will probably be fun in a new way.
LOL. True it won’t be the same. Drew doesn’t have that father/grandfather vibe. But I think he will freshen the place up a little. Time will tell if it’s just as good, better or in need of being put to rest. I hope he does well. And like you said he will definitely make it his own.
Louie Anderson is going to hose Family Feud? I mean, he was a funny stand up comedian but kissing all those women?
Doesn't pass the smell test. The author's arguments ring hollow.
