There has been a complete power failure at the St. Louis Arch. Over 100+ people are stuck at the top of it and more are in tram capsules that go up to the top. Right now there is a major rescue operation going on to get them out. The are all going to have to walk down the cat walk stairs to get down.
The Arch is 630’ tall
At least 140 people are stuck at the top and more in the capsule trams. (I would be totally freaking out if I was stuck in one of those little tram capsules)
The opposite is just as scary, if not more so. When the elevators in Carlsbad caverns quit, it’s a long walk up and out.
Prayers up for a swift rescue of all concerned.
Sure hope that nobody has to poop!
Sorry, I'm on my third beer.
How scary! I hope they aren’t stuck for long.
I’d be freakin out also - either at the top of the arch or in those train capsules.....let us know please when it’s fixed.
I was up there just three weeks ago. Those little eggs are small.
It is going on 2 hours now - they have some people out of some of the capsule trams (The trams that brings them down).
When you go up you ride up one leg of it and then you go down the other leg.
The Tram capsules rotate 155 degrees as they go up and down.
That last people to get out will be the 140+ that are at the top of it.
I have a strong, healthy heart, but I think that would test it.
Thank goodness it is not windy in STL tonight.
The top of the arch can really sway when it is windy.
The last time I was up in it, it was swaying so bad that I told myself at the time it would be my last time.
Local News has people who are trapped at the top on the phone. So far they are all staying calm.
With my claustrophobia if anyone had gotten me on this elevator to begin with it would be torn to sheds long before rescue arrived.
I don’t have claustrophobia, but being trapped scares the bejeebies out of me. I used to like ferris wheels, until one of them stopped for about five minutes with me on the top. Getting blocked in during a traffic jam (especially on a bridge) brings out the worst in me.
Gee, thanks I will have nightmares all night.
Oh - add wind - and I would never be going up there.....Glad the trams are emptying out....and that the people up top are staying calm.
Sorry son, thats claustrophobia. LOL!
You have never been in it?
Many people refuse to go up after they see the tiny capsules you have to ride in. You cannot stand in them and you can barely sit up straight in one. Most of the time they stuff 5 people in each one.
Lady on TV says her 5 year old son is up there with his grandma.
I can stand being an enclosed space, as long as I’m not trapped there for an indefinite period of time. It’s the being trapped part that scares me. I can be in an open space, but if I’m trapped there, look out!
I’d would rather be on the Amtrak in Texas.
