1. water your lawn regularly your lawn needs at least 1” of water per week - make sure it gets MORE than that.

2. Water in the early morning if possible.

3. If the former owner used a “lawn service” for fertilizing, weed prevention, etc. hire them.

4, If not, ask the previous owner what he/she used - then do the same.

5. If # 5 is not possible, consult a professional

6. If #5 and #6 are not possible - just start the Scotts 4 step system and keep to a good schedule.

7. When mowing, set your mower deck to a level that is just slightly higher than the “perfect” height. Then cut the lawn when growth is 1 inch higher. (you may have to cut more than once a week, but it will always look great.

8. Ditto what other’s have said about mulching. make sure you have mulching blades on your tractor, the lawn stays more healthy that way.

9. In the fall, either rent an aerator or pay for the service, then apply your final winterizer.

10. enjoy

Thanks Homey,

RE #1. I have inside dogs. They like to run in the fenced backyard. I want to keep it fairly dry so they will not track in mud. (NorthCarolina red clay)

RE #2. Impossible. I can hardly see to drive 90mph late for work.

RE #3. You mean like ChemLawn that comes out twice a year?

RE #6. I will look into that.

RE #7. I don’t mind cutting more.

RE #8. The bags ar a real pain in the rear. I think I will buy mulching blades and use the bags for autumn leaf vacuuming. Unless the leaves would make good mulch.

My nextdoor neighbor asks if he can have my grass clippings. He has a compost bed.

Thanks for the advise.
